Not that you'd need any further explanation from the title, I've got an Nvidia card here which is built for normal PCs (midtowers, desktops, and up). Unfortunately, I need to put it in a mini-tower, which has a much smaller brace (you know, the thing that holds the connector and makes it fit into the case properly). Anyone know 1) WTF those things are actually called. 2) A place where I can buy just the metal thing and swap it out. It's for a user that's been waiting quite a while actually.
Will the card and the VGA output fit in that case and slot? I think its called NIX or something like that but I know what you're talking about. Just unscrew it and if the card fits then you're set, just dont push on the connection because since there is no bracket to hold it down the card might come out loose. You can also modify the current bracket. Cut off the right amount and bend the piece to go over the thing where it will be held in. As a matter of fact. Is it DVI output or VGA D-Sub??
It's actually Nvidia dual-headed output, so can be either Dsub or DVI. And yes, it will fit, as long as the bracket isn't there. No bracket at all is the other option if I can't find a small guy to replace it with. I don't think I'll bother modifying it.
hmmm...I doubt you can buy just the metal thing and swap it with ease. Unless that nvidia model was made in the small form factor style also, you would have to machine (dremel) your own holes The PCI specifications define two different card lengths. The full-size PCI form factor is 312 millimeters long; short PCIs range from 119 to 167 millimeters in length to fit into smaller slots where space is an issue. Like the full-size PCI, the short PCI is a high-performance I/O bus that can be configured dynamically for use in devices with high bandwidth requirements. Most current PCI cards are half-sized or smaller. There are a number of variations of PCI, including CompactPCI, Mini PCI, Low-Profile PCI, concurrent PCI, and PCI-X.
Thanks for the link. Any standard VGA device that has the smaller brace will work. All it is is a piece of metal w/ a hole in it for a 15-pin D-sub connection (and the screws, of course). I'm not asking to buy a solid brace (already got those in the PC), but one that is made for standard VGA devices. Yes, they do exist, as I've bought graphics cards before that come with one just for situations like this. Unfortunately, the one I bought, does not.
