Blessed be thou my son *anoints forehead with oil* As far as Techno goes, Love the Crystal Method and Future sound of london. Also Okenfold and Steve Akoi, Can't leave out Daft Punk either
My latest tech house mix. I go for groovy these days. I've Been to Another World and Fell In Love, But It Was Not Mutual and I Was Forcibly Removed I got another I'm working on and will be done soon. I really prefer to just get drunk and dick around on my CDJs, but I've been stuck on the road for a while, and it's a way to blow off some steam.
Nice to see some people here into trance and techno. I'm a trance producer myself, here's a little vid of one of my upcoming releases for anyone interested. Buzzing to have gotten Menno De Jong to remix for me, let me know what you guys think.
I like a lot of euro dance music, Spanish and Italian stuff from the 90s especially. I like a lot of modern dance music too but I always find my self going back to the 90s, you can see where a lot of modern influences come from.
What people call dubstep now is mostly a mainstream bastard of something which was just one of many ideas that formed the sound. lots of people jumped the already full speed moving train in 2008 and 09, and got a bit wrong impression + added in what they were into for years: music following formulas ........ The name "dubstep" was also never really fitting the movement, which was mainly about the deepest sub bass possible, not restricted by genres, bpm or riddim structures. still it moved on and is nowadays mostly named Bass Music. Dubstep as in todays defintion is just another musical dead end, as trap for example. its fun for a while and has its rights to exist, but leading nowhere and will be replaced by the next hype sooner or later. heres a mix of classics and lost dubs i did for the dubstep.de xmas calendar: http://www.mixcloud.com/2krazy/2krazy-dubstepde-x-mas-calendar-mix-2012/ and my most recent mix, hopefully giving a bit of idea where "dubstep" and the movement went to: https://soundcloud.com/2krazy/2krazy-february-2013-mix
I love a bit of everything, but I do find myself listening to old stuff all the time. I plan to give a few oldies a modern rework over the next few months and give them away. Free tracks are great promotion.
GaijinPunch, really enjoyed your Tech house mix so far. I will be downloading it tonight for my mp3 player. I can then give it a proper listen while exercising. Also Chris, your trance track is very quality. I am impressed with your production levels and went ahead and checked out some of your other tunes on Youtube to get a better grasp of your overall sound. It's mature and well thought out, without a hint of confusion within the composition. Nice walk in and then the it hits very peaceful atmospherics with the solid trance build which is musically pleasant to the ears. So, the beat energy is hard while the atmospherics and melody play together with a smooth, pleasant lift. This contrast creates a nice dimension. Good stuff. Druid: The genres denote the beat structures, the cultural attitudes and influences within the music based on region, at least initially. One usually finds repetitive beat and melody based patterns that are exclusive to the genre. Also, the type of sound system , the way equalizers are used to create a certain emphasis on what highlights a particular genre can be employed. So formula. Genres are basically ways to map out the navigation points in the overall electronic soundscape. Also, as you point out, hybridization is common which produces and gives birth to new offspring that becomes labelled itself. There are too many genres and sub genres for myself to keep up with, but knowing the particular formula based tunes which I like, labeling makes it easier to seek out new content. Even going outside of Genre boundaries, making mixes that comprise many different sounds , is a genre unto itself, sometimes known as mash up. It's the human way to map out the terrain and certainly helps considering that the electronic music scene is worldwide with literally hundreds of unique musical enclaves that create and distribute their particular sound and it has a name attached.
Cheers LowerLevels, I put a lot of work into them and have been at it for years. Hard work finally starting to finally pay off! There's a lot of bitching in the music scene, more so than ever before. Just listen to what you like is my motto.
