There has been a few posts on Tectoy's facebook page asking what consumers prefer to have re-released: Master System or Mega Drive. From what I read they are open to the idea of releasing one of those consoles with a cartridge slot. I was surprised to read this news and I'm hoping they decide to release them with cartridge slot. The last consoles they made did not had the slots and the quality wasn't very good.
If they plan on doing something like that, it would probably be just rebranded stuff from China. People seem to forget that the company from the 80's and early 90's doesn't exist anymore. They are not going to develop anything, specially expensive old hardware. Ever since Sega quit the hardware market, the company tried to recreate itself: Zeebo, cheap DVD players, tablets, Digital TV STBs... Even using their plants to outsource manufacturing for foreign companies. An year ago their stocks were worthless: http://www.infomoney.com.br/tectoy/...oe-grupamento-milhao-acoes-votacao-sera-junho I doubt the situation changed. Just check their recent reports (in portuguese): http://institucional.tectoy.com.br/investidores.aspx
Obviously is a rebranded china console just like the last ones, if there is something with a cartridge selling in dealextreme or another buycrap site it can be that very same thing with a different cover.
Id personaly not like to see more of these aftermarket systems. i had an AT GAMES megadrive and the thing was horrendous
