http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8132324718&rd=1 Is the disc worth the buy? I already got the OST in MP3 form ffrom a friend, but something about that price screams rip off. Help appreciated...
I think its pointless when you already can listen to it for free, but this is a board "Dedicated to rare, prototype, and developers video game systems.". So I would not bid and see if I can get a copy through FS/Trade boards at places like digitpress. Or you could check yahoo japan.
That seems a little too expensive I'd say. maybe somewhere around 80 US Dollars would be better. Yakumo
DAMN! 120 bucks! My hope of ever getting one has now flown out of the window... and I really like the games music. No wonder I couldnt find it in the extensive game OST section at Shinjuku Tsutaya :smt022
How can you with so many different genres around? (granted, FORTUNATELY there's no games with RnB but a lot of other styles are covered)
I think he means listening to game music outside of a videogame, and to be honest I can't really see the appeal either. A friend played me some jazz Chrono Trigger CD the other day, and my God that was bloody awful :smt042 That said some of the Overclocked remixes I got of Sonic tunes were pretty good. But they were free, I'm not sure how much I'd be prepared to pay for them. If this Nights soundtrack was less than a fiver I'd probably toy with the idea of buying it, if it was right in front of me and I'd just been paid. $120 is an insult for a soundtrack cd, if it costs more than the damn game then it's a ripoff.
I grew up on classical piano (playing it) and eventually moved on to DJing techno, and enjoying many genres of it. Game music has either been cheesy (up until the last few years), flat out awful (Burning Rangers, any NextGen Sonic), or a nice try but about 3-5 years too late (ESPGaluda). I know that sounds harsh, but there's a good reason why game OSTs are in very limited print runs. And before anyone jumps down my throat, I'll say that I think the music in this country is apalling at best.
I play the didgeridoo! (yidaki) :smt1062 (could look a bit like a didge...) Infact, I may even leave the PC for 10 minutes and have a go now!
Shenmue is probably the only game that made me try to sing the songs in the shower. Of course It was horribley broken Japanese with the shampoo playing the chinese fiddles :smt043
Most game OSTs are pretty crap. The only exceptions for me that are worth listening to are Shenmue - just as with koolkid here - and to an extent, Headhunter.
Glad to see I'm not alone. Not to shit on those that like game music though. My few game soundtracks I like: Ghost in the Shell (nice track by Takkyu Ishino) Shenmue (nice music all around) Jet Set Radio / Future
That's what separates Shenmue from other games really; the music is worth listening to anytime and doesn't only fit in a game. As you said, nice music all around. Thank goodness they left that horrendous shit Tom plays on his stereo out. NiGHTS, for example - the in-game music is excellent, but only in-game; cranking up those Nightopia tunes in a car or on a home stereo just doesn't do it.
$120 for an Audio CD??? Is the guy on crack?? I personally wouldn't pay more than $20 shipped for any Audio CD!!! I have bought a few OST's in my time and NiGHTS is cool but... you could buy a bloody saturn & a copy of nights for that and just play the audio tracks in the saturn cd player mode!
Well that doesn't work as they're in a special format... but there's the Sound Test in the game that does exactly the same Bear in mind Nights alters the music dynamically which is very cool I think
