Calm down guys... it's a serious problem and Peta seeks the help of video game popularity to draw attention to it. I don't have any problem with that, I think it's a very good idea by Peta. There's absolutely no reason to react like a 15-year old fanboy. Noboday shat on your cake, they are nowhere stating that you should avoid buying Mario-games. Everything on that page is related to real fur and real animal cruelty.
Yet ignore the fact PETA kills more animals than they save. Most of the Videos they show as an "Expose" are infact PETA members doing the deed. But that's another topic all together.
PETA is pointless. It seems they care more about animals than people, yet they spend bags of cash advertising to Humans how we are scum. Shouldn't more of that money go towards... well.. you know... The animals? PETA should be making statements about all the animals that they saved, or updates on their expanding animal sanctuary. Not to take a break to bash on things like Cooking Mama because she is a culinary master who happens to prepare meat, or Mario because he is wearing a fucking suit. Who gives a shit? I never even connected that Tanooki suit with Fur wearing at all, and it never would have entered my brain hadn't this been posted, but now I feel like owning some fur products so I can be more like that beloved plumber! =]
Those poor Tanookies, Koopas, and let us not forget about illegal Chain Chomp fights! Damn you Nintendo! Damn you to hell!! I have no problem with them fighting people and places that show cruelty to animals, but this is ridiculous! They did the same thing with Cooking Mamma a few years ago.
The fact that people are talking about it and that various website and probably newspaper coloumns ar being taken up by this story does show that PETA have succeeded in promoting their message, regardless of how insane it is. If they did not cause controversy do you really think that outside a few gaming sites anyone whould have picked up on this? As for the GoH lack of brain statement that PETA kills animals, are you living in some kind of fairy world where the trees are made of chocolate, the sun is smiling and shining everyday and money just comes from a hole in the ground? For a start if you bothered to look at their "Evidence" you will notice they used total number of animals including number returned to their owners. Also there is nothing to show what age or condition the animals were in, if the animals were wild or feral, etc. a few of pages show they euthanised 100% of poultry brought to them, where you can see that most were run over, in a bad way, etc. PETAs number are the same as most of the other Humane organisations that do publish their numbers as a lot of smaller ones do not. 7 out of 10 cats are put to sleep because a large number of them are feral cats which have zero percent chance of ever being house cats. Most organisations do not want to put animals to sleep but some will never be adopted due to age or illness, a number will be wild or dangerous and some will be such a bad way that they would have to be put down. It would be nice house them until adoption or until they die, but most have space and financial issues which mean that reality means they have to do what is best for the number of animals they get. Even the no-kill shelters will generally refuse older pets or ones that may require medical attention and even if they do take them in they may end up giving it to another place to be put down so they can claim a no kill policy... Try ringing up a couple of shelters around you, say you have to move abroad and then first say you have a couple of 12 year old dogs and then ring later saying you have some golden retriever puppies and see which are likely to say yes, chances are that the 12 year olds will not find homes, but the puppies which are much easier to find homes for will probably be excepted by every shelter you ring...
I think PETA is retarded, not because I'm one of those "HERP DERP FOR EVERY ANIMAL YOU EAT I'M GONNA EAT THREE VEGETARIANISM IS FOR PUSSIES" idiots, but because they're actually hurting their own cause with this kind of ridiculous bullshit. Nobody's gonna take vegetarianism/veganism seriously if it's associated with these attention-whoring fuckheaps screeching about whatever.
Am I the only one that remembers Mario wearing a frog suit as well as a raccoon suit many years ago? I'm not really familiar with PETA, but I somehow doubt they did anything at that time... but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Amazing how they dont have a problem with Super Mario 3 as you can wear the same suits etc that they are moaning about, basically PETA is looking for some free exposure...quite sad this is what the resort too, someone has told these people that Mario is a game havent they?
Again, I believe it's just a marketing trick and a clever one at that. Mario's quite popular these days with the Wii and upcoming software, so it's not the worst thing to use that popularity to draw attention on more serious problems. Of course it'd ridiculous to blame Mario of advertising the fur-market, but I definitely don't feel like they want me to believe that. Sometimes you'd be so much better off if you kept your mouth shut about things you don't know anything about instead of stating wild controversial assertions as facts all the time. It's misleading within the discussion and does not benefit your reputation and credibility at all.

I don't see a problem with what Mario wears. but then again I won't buy shampoo unless it's been sluiced in some rabbits eyes.
