Hi there, i bought this today and i am still trying to figure out what it is. I hope someone in the community can help me out and let me know how common or rare this is, and what it is! Thanks to all!
It's basically a blank PCB and has spacing where the FLASH chip and EEPROM should go. Pretty much worthless and does absolutely nothing.
So, worthless even for dev? Not collectable, rare or anything? As I haven't seen any other or no info whatsoever about these, I think they are not worthless at all. But I guess it's a matter of opinion. Ive seen really worthless stuff go for hundreds of bucks on eBay, or broken dev stuff sell for a lot... As a nintendo collector, I really like them and Im glad I came across them
the board is just the same as any other cart with the chips removed. suppose it was more of a collectable before you cut it open
I got a couple of Test 1 with code NTR-ABCD-EUR and a couple of NTR-EFGH-ITA, no worries. I opened one to check if it was a real Nintendo product or not, and what it had inside. I find it interesting that the labels are high quality printing with the original seal of quality (compared with originals and it's 100% the same), original casing, pcb same as originals (but missing components), but the case sealed/closed... why would anyone do that, and what kind of test was it? i am very curious to some day find out why they made them, and what was the purpose. For now, they look cool in my collection Thanks for your input
'why would anyone do that, and what kind of test was it?' Nintendo gets the cartridges destroyed once the testing is finished with. Much how like testing companies of the 90s would have bags of shredded CDs outside their testing areas. The case might be worth something to a collector, but the PCB is worthless to anyone and everyone, it's the exact same as a normal DS cartridge PCB, only it's got nothing on it.
I assume its probably for demo units? So people can see how the carts go in etc without wasting a real game?
Well, i don't think a collector would be interested in the case only, but case and pcb as one, unopened. Thanks for all the useful information and the time you spent sharing it.
interesting theory. i will ask some friends that worked in video game stores to see if something like that is possible. but as far as i know the demo units come with demo carts with videos or games, not just carts without anything in them... but i will look into it a bit more. thanks for the feedback.
