TEST PS4

Hi,

Looking to sell my TEST Playstation 4 model DUH-T1000AA, she's clean and mint but unfortunately no original box

FW:1.78
Expiration As Of 6/12/14: 66 days 14hours
Asking $1,500 OBO

 

Maybe I am not privy to this since I have not done any developing with the PS4, but what happens after the expiration date? Does the kit no longer function or.......?

 

I was wondering the same thing. Not to knock the price - trust me, it's a nice piece of equipment - but I'd find it hard to throw down for this only to have it stop working in 2 months.

 

Well he probably paid $1200 for it.

 

Wont lie, you must attain an activation key or hack the system. I'm a collector and happen to have 2 of these, I really only need one for display.

 

So what does the kit do after activation key has expired?

 

key is expired will stop other np service and some function from debug menu

 

Mmm. That's what my concern is. Any known hack around the key expiring? User netyaroze here mentioned a hack for the vita dev kit.

When the testkit (Debugging Station) is expired, it will not run fself (aka unsigned selfs) anymore, making it relatively (if not entirely) useless.

Also, as far as I know of, ps4 testkits won't play retail games (although development tools do from what I have been told)

 

Ugh. So without the key activated its even less functional than a retail ps4? Jesus, good for them bad for independent devs.

 

It's pretty shit, collecting these won't have the same charm like they do from previous gens. Many will be sitting waiting for the activation to be reversed engineered...

Edit: Lol! Guess hate was a strong word...but having a console "self destruct" is pretty crap! I really hope this isn't the future of all dev kits...

 

Why? Just because they want to protect their IP? I think that's fair game.

 

According to those few photos in the vita test kit price check thread, it's possible to extend the limit, but I'm not sure whether those photos were actual proof nor whether if it is real that the same method can be applied to the ps4 kits.

 

There is also speculation that the hack only effects the time displayed until expiry and not the actual date it will expire. Good on sony for securing their kits, kick in the teeth for those of us that like to dabble in the exotic though.
