So I'm planning to do a region mod on my TG16. The method I plan on using is the one shown here.

There was a discussion on another forum that mention that this particular IC mod does not work properly for some strange reason on TG16 (US TG16's I'm assuming). Anyone here has done the IC region mod on a US TG16 with success? I already have extra parts since I'm gonna do the same region mod on my PC Engine Duo at the same time.

    Thanks for any help.

I looked into this a year or two ago mainly on the PCengineFX.com forum. You can make your TG16 region free by one of two methods, either with an IC as you mention and just have one single switch (1 throw 2 pole) to select between USA/Europe and Japanese mode; or can just make a bank of four 2 throw 2 pole switches and do it mechanically. To make the system one region or the other, you are only swapping 4 pairs of cart connectors.

The mechanical method works 100% of course, some on the PCengineFX forum have used the IC method and my understanding is it works quite well but for some reason isn't quite as reliable (not sure why), so some of those modders have reverted to mechanical, having sourced a 1 throw 8 pole switch to keep things neat.

    The 4 pairs of wires:

If you're using a PC Engine, same wires to swap but you also need to lift a pin on the chip (pin 29 as I recall off memory) which you don't need to do on TurboGrafx (eg UK) or TurboGrafx 16 consoles (eg USA).

You need a SPDT (single pole double throw switch, toggle or slide type ,not a momentary one or a DPST (double pole single throw).

,not a momentary one or a DPST (double pole single throw /1 throw 2 pole ).

5Vcc (+ 5 volt) to A or B ,Vss (0 volts/ ground) to the spare (A or B) and the common point carries either A or B to the IC .Simple !

Or just get a dirt cheap Pc engine/ core grafx and get a 100% reliable region mod done on them.

I have both a PC Engine Duo and a TG16. Just doing the region mod for the heck of it. :D

My main concern with the TG16 was that some members from the PCEngineFX.com forums brought up that on the US TG16, there would be lock up/freezing when playing a Japanese HiuCard and some glitching after some play with a US HuCard with the IC mod. I'm sure that I'll have no problem with the PC Engine Duo, but I'm curious about the TG16.

Thanks for the help, bacteria and biscuit.

No idea why this is the case, but that was what I was referring to; whereas using a bank of 4 x 2P2T switches work fine, all be it bulky; although you can buy an 8P2T switch (seen them on ebay a while back) instead.
