If it's the smell I think, having received a lot of games from Japan from a smoker years back, I always found the smell pleasant =p brings back memories when I smell the old things I've gotten from Japan that still have that scent. I'd assume since the smell survives this long that it'd be pretty much impossible to get rid of, but I don't know anything.
It's from a dreamcast box. The DC was very, very yellow, and I assume the smell is from it being inside. It's bad enough that is screwing up my sinuses.
That stuff is crap. We use that in the house after making yakiniku and the place still stinks./ Best just air it as much as possible.
I think so too, but it's the only thing I had in the house. Maybe I'll get one of those car bombs that kill smoke odor they have at the denkiya. Here's the console that was in the box. The whole set was 300 yen. Once again, I bought it for the box. I had a homeless Dreamcast. This one was complete and all, but yuck...
So let me get this right, you've picked up a complete, boxed, working Dreamcast for less the £3 sterling, $4 USA, and you're moaning because there's a cigarette smoke smell to it?:lol::lol:
Oh japan.... I just got some used PS2 games in last week and on one of the games everything was in tip top shape (no smell) but once I started flipping through the manual 5m later my fingers reeked of cigaret smoke. Have you ever gotten things used from japan before? God, every namco 246/256 PCB I get from japan I have to take apart to clean as they reek of smoke and are just caked in dirt from the fans pulling that crap inside the case.
If he goes that far maybe he should also try a vodka/water mix. Silly thing to suggest but mythbusters tried it with a jacket soaked to the bone in cigarette smoke and found vodka/water did slightly better then detergent and over all removed a good portion of the smell.
hck i have mention this on another thread so if you want to remove the smoke smell take a look at this really cool five second ms paint drawing . http://www.flickr.com/photos/57166475@N06/5711355168/
ohhhhh you want the smell off the cardboard box? hm, I'm not sure, I guess a light application of the vodka mix could work, just be careful not to over saturate and cause water damage
Maybe baking soda can help, it absorbs smells. Fill a small cup with it and place it in the box, let it work its wonders. It works with smelly shoes and funny smells in the fridge, so why not with smoke smell...
