I've got a Lotus thing here in a HUGE box, has 100 floppies or so for the main package and 20+ for an update.

Yeh, needless to say I only installed that once... The second time I got an error on disc 27 or so, never again!

That's terrible. Just imagine being on the last disk and you got a failure. All that work for nothing! Or you'd have to contact the company to get that last disk sent out, and in the mean time leave your PC exactly how it is for possibly weeks.

I remember a friend (from out of state) bringing over Doom 2 or something like that once but one or more of the floppies was dead. Possibly from going through the airport metal detectors or other such equipment.

These days I only ever use Floppy Disks with old school "Backup Devices" like the Game Doctor SF and Double Pro Fighter. I still think it's kind of fun and amusing to load up a console game off a floppy or two.

As a interesting note it would take over 31 years for you to load up 25 gigabytes using the original Kansas City tape format (300bps or 27 3/11th bytes a second...) .

Speaking of floppies I just got a Imation USB LS120 drive for $0.99. Problem is Windows 7 and XP on this laptop both have issues with formatting any LS120 disks and floppies for that matter. 7 crashes explorer which I haven't had happen with anything else and XP has some variety of crash via ufat.dll as well as simply being unable to read the floppy. It was intended for Macs running OS9 so I'm going to try it on my eMac before I rip it apart.

Oh, then I have to start with that asap. Else I probably won't make it anymore.

Wouldn't you first need to save 25GB gigs on Tape which would take a comparable amount of time?

Not to be an arse or anything, but what about trying to use Windows 98 with it ? cause it sounds like an issue that is NT related, but then again I have no idea. But it was just a thought..
