Music is a special thing. sometimes you can meet a song or even a whole album that you feel vibrating at the same sound as you soul.

    Discuss you experience.

My personal soul album seems to be
pink floyd's "the dark side of The moon". there's a few songs that can _almost_ make me cry for no reason, and i'm a man that NEVER cries.

especially "time", "us and them" and "brain damage" seem to have a special effect on me.

i consider buying the DVD of the concert "PULSE" as one of my life's best buys.

For a few years before it became available on DVD it was one of my most prized laserdiscs! An amazing live album.

I don't really have anything like that.

I guess the closest thing I can think of is:
    Radiohead 0K computer

It sticks in my mind because so many people I knew
died during that time, it's sort of become associated
    in my mind with loss.

It was a year with many funerals in the rain.
    Holding caskets in a downpour.

Anyways you seem depressed with all these kinds of topics.
unusual to be coming from you

Songs Of Faith and Devotion is one of those albums, where every song (except one, even though it isn´t a horrible song at all, the song is "Get Right With Me"). just fills me soul, and damn it is such a great album. From the highs in Higher Love to the Lows in Mercy In You, it is such a great album. But hey, check my custom title, it speaks for itself really.

DO i sound this bad? :p i just want to assure you guys, i'm not depressed.

i think i'm tired, and generally unsatisfied lately. I'm quite unhappy with the course of many things; my country's government (oh god how much i can't stand it! i have strong political passion and seeing berlusconi's gang of thieves back in power is a big blow :p ) , economics, the lack of work at our factory, no good perspectives for the future in italy and mainly in my city. The crisys in my city is something difficult to immagine. And i love it, really; i suffer to see my city decaying. Also it seems to me that no matter how much i sleep i don't get rest. i mean i sleep and keep being tired :p

also i feel unsatisfied with many things; for example i feel i should do better for this place and sometimes i'm disappointed in it not growing and getting better, also i'm not very satisfied with my work as an user and mod; i'd like to find more interesting topics for stirring up some movements/discussions in the forum population. I mean we are HUGE! i doesn't want to believe that all the silent people are here just for the marketplace :p

also i'm concerned in finding a way to earn more to get a flat in the future (here a 80-90 square meters flat NOT luxurious goes for around 240000 euros...).

in any case soon i'll have my holydays, i'll go to my bride, i'm finally done with all the paperwork for the wedding, i bought the dress and all to look great (average i guess :D) and i'll finally get laid properly, so at least for some time i'll manage to relax. :)

can't wait to get to karelia for those 4 days... 800km north of st. petersburg wild place, with nothing but a giant lake, silence, woods, fishes, mushrooms. no coffees, no real shops, no noises, taking banyas (a kind of sauna) all days... mmmh :) have a search for the place; it's called pyalma, you can find it on google earth. it's on:

    62°26'28.25"N 35°52'5.16"E

just thinking about it makes me in a good mood :)

    My Bloody Valentine's Loveless

Beautiful guitar melodies drowning in a sea of reverb.

I would say the album "Strange Beautiful Music" - Joe Satriani.
I can't explain what I feel when I listen to that album, as it also brings back lots of memories.
Belly Dancer, Starry Night and Hill Groove were one of the first Satriani songs I was able to play on the guitar and also the first complex songs I played live with my old band.
    Great thread :p

    OK Computer is excellent.

I'm going to have to change mine to the album Nihilistic Purity by Lyrinx. I feel like that all the fucking time now for the past four years.

I would say either Muse - Origin of Symmetry or Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache. Both are amazing albums.

    Opeth - Blackwater Park

I can always turn to this album for reflection on my past and my life...the moods it creates are incredible, beautiful, melancholy...it is perfection.

Can only narrow it down to two albums from a list of several thousand...

Velvet Underground (self titled, aka: Andy Warhol, 'peelable banana' cover)

...Sums up my life, my thoughts and my ideal's. Also makes me feel very humble, which only happens when music touches the soul.

    The Stranglers: Rattus Norvegicus

The first album that I learnt to remember every lyric, of every song from, back in 1977. The album still sounds like nothing ever created before or since.

One of my all time favourite concerts/album is Pink Floyd - Pulse. I went to see a PF tribute band in April The Australian Pink Floyd, they played most of The Wall album amongst others...the light show was amazing and the band were note perfect.

So to answer your question, I'd have to opt for PF - Pulse.

    1) The Doors "Weird Scenes inside the Gold Mine" (1972)

I was given this as an LP by a Canadian friend of mine. She had actually gone to see the Doors live in Canada, bought this album and had never played it. It was pristine. I left the job where I worked beside her and she presented it to me. Lost it whilst moving to France. However, it introduced me to a track I had previously never heard "Peace Frog / Blue Sunday".

Listen to this amazing remix, by Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIeZJyvlYA8

    2) Dinosaur Jr. "Forget The Swan" (1985)

First track on their debut album (Dinosaur), I can clearly remember the very first time I heard my brother play the album and we both just stood in the middle of the bedroom (we used to share (but amazingly had 2 stereos and often competed for airplay!)) in amazement!

They remain a firm favorite and one of those bands very few other people really name check. Without Dinosaur & The Pixies the World would simply be shit.

Listen to the original line up play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6WLkyxySA0&feature=related Incidentally the guitar solo in this version gives me a woody each time I hear it!

    3) The Who "Woodstock performance" (1969)

When anyone mentions 'Woodstock '69' they invariably think of Hendrix (and although I love Jimi), the performance by 'The Who' just encapsulated the time, the rage of youth, the essence of rock attitude & the utter beauty of a tight band playing sublime music! Apart from a handful of bands, I don't think I have heard a better live performance.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH9IgJZCx4c&feature=related

    4) MC Solaar "Caroline" (1991)

A totally different type of artist, but this particular track is important to me as it kick started a career in promoting music and although I never did anything other than play his music on my radio show, I actually got the opportunity to directly promote one of the artists who appeared on the album (Soon E MC) and also did some minor promotional work for DJ D Nasty. The rest however, is history and without this track none of it would have occurred.

I don't like a lot to classify albums a lot because my music choices depend mostly of my mood. For example, some good thrash is always good to wake up when I have to work, but if I had a really busy day and I just want to relax a bit, some power/prog metal will be my choice.

Anyway, if I have to choose, my choice definitely is Images And Words from Dream Theater. It's the first prog album I ever heard and after lots of years I still feel it has everything I look for in an album.

HIM - One Last Time is the song of my soul because i just love the lyrics and the way it sounds is just amazing.

The album of my soul would be The darkness 0 permission to land because i really got into that album during one of the best periods of my life and they were the 1st band i ever saw live with my then girlfriend who i was in love with and that was amazing.
