Interview with Telegames from Atari Entertainment magazine (i had a very brief stint there as a staff writer ) Beyond games finest hour-How the hell they struggled so badly to update Battlewheels for the Jaguar is beyond me..update the visuals, make game bigger, faster..add in modem/link up play, job done.Instead Jaguar version only got as far as early 3D Modelling. Instead Atari had them do Ultra Vortek/Votex depending on which version you refer to (Lynx version in the works.....Ultravore see Songbird productions for more details....)...and they were in TALKS with Atari to do AVP II and Major Havoc 2000 on Jaguar/ PC CD. News/Reviews from Page 6 Magazine. We chased up the supposed claim of Jeff Minter doing Ultra Star Raiders (i wish), utter rubbish Jeff never touched Lynx hardware as a coder (he did LOVE the machine as a GAMER though), Llamasoft far too small to risk Lynx development. Switchblade 2:I asked head of Gremlin, why no other Lynx titles, simple answer, Switch Blade II sold so poorly, it proved there was no commercial market for future Lynx development
Last lot of scans from from myself, these will be a mix of opinion pieces/reviews from the indie Press so Page 6/New atari User and Atari Entertainment Magazine, my intention is to give the widest possible view of the UK Scene, as it was back then and to do that, you need to see the Commercial and Indie coverage...
Here's some really cool stuff that i've found, both by myself and one of collaborator. First, from said person a commercial that was shown in Famimaga, Japan. The company that distributed the Lynx in Japan was Mumin Japan, the same guys who would later distribute the Jaguar there: Plus, some other ones as well:
Just to clear up a few Press claims: 1)Jeff Minter doing Ultra Star Raiders on the Lynx: Jeff Minter talking to Tal Funke-Bilu, about why he never did any Lynx development (sadly): 'Jeff:At the time it came out I would have killed to write Lynx games. However Llamasoft wasn't a big enough company to sustain the cost of developing and publishing our own games on ROM, and I didn't know of any larger companies who would let me do the kind of games I wanted to do-so i carried on with the ST' I then had Jeff Tweeted on my behalf to confirm this, over to Jeff: Jeff Minter @llamasoft_ox 29m @The_Jeremy No. I would've loved to've worked on an official SR port but I never got to do anything at all on Lynx 2)DOMARK were working on various Lynx Titles-I've spoken to numerous coders, plus Domark's head of projects, YES they had Lynx development systems, but no-one can think of any coding actually being started. 3)Gamesmaster Magazines claim Cal Games 2 was 50% done on Lynx:For starters magazine used screens from PC version, sign saying DOS Highway bit of a giveaway, the guys i've spoken to from Epyx, say the realationship between them and Atari was so bad at this point, they would of fed Atari any B.S they could think of...
It's mainly Jaguar related, but when speaking to Bullfrog, I did ask why no Lynx development when Peter Molyneux had praised the hardware so highly.. Read through link here.. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/23...ex-trowers-lead-designer-answers-my-question/
