    Hi guys,

On the way home I was listening to my iPod and began to wonder, as I often do.. what would you say are the best albums in your music collection? Which are your favourites, and which deserve honorable mentioned? Which did you used to love, but no longer listen to?

I guess I'll start with some of mine.

    Favourites -

Kasabian- Kasabian. Beautifully crafted, an essential album. Their new albums are stodgy and stale, and they are jumped up pricks.

Robbie Williams -Escapology A fine album, close to going in the 'used to love pile', but its still very listenable to me.

Manic Street Preachers - Holy Bible Truly sublime with every song having a different tone and style. Very mood and downbeat, thought provoking.

Mr Bungle - Mr Bungle Best described as random freaky circus rock music. Patton's voice is amazing and I just adore how the songs will twist and turn from being moody to chirpy, to thrashy, all in the space of under a minute or so. Everyone needs to have a listen!

System of a Down - System of a Down -Their first album reeks of passion, with a raw, rough sound. Amazing stuff that still sounds fresh today.

Snake River Conspiracy - Sonic Jihad - An amazing female voice on a rollercoaster of different style sounds, really worth a listen and it still makes me tingle.

Coldplay- Rush of Blood to the Head Amazing through and through, with epic melodies, finely crafted tunes and a true passion that really shines through. Beautiful.

Electric Soft Parade -Holes in the Wall My first favourite album. Indie music done right, with every track offering a different sound. Even the ballads are fantastic. A pinnacle.

Ladyhawke - LadyhawkeSimply great music, again, with every track being different. For a modern band, the sound is so very different and upbeat; really enjoyable, everyone should have a listen.

Mindless Self Indulgence Hard to choose between Frankenstein Girls or You'll rebel to anythnig. in your face, loud, energetic, punky stuff; really unmatched. Like marmite, some hate it, some love it.

Rabbit Junk -Rabbit Junk - Unrelented, shrieking, digital hardcore. Fucking amazing

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral -Need I say more?

    Used to love-

Garbage. Any of their albums. Still do have a special place in my heart, but I tend to skip past them now.

Oasis - Particulary Morning Glory and Standing on the Shoulders. I tend to skip past this style of music now.

System of a Down - Mezmerize- The album that got me into NuMetal.. I forced myself to listen to it, and suddenly it 'clicked'. Sounds a bit too 'poppy' to me now but still great.

Static X - Shadow Zone Very angsty, but past it now.

FischerSpooner - Odysey - Funky electro synthpop. Used to dig it, but bores me somewhat now.

Linkin Park - Meteora I think I've grown out of this. But its amazingly produced and very special to me as a great example of me loving a genre that I really never gave a chance.

The Offspring - My stepping stone to pop rock, thanks to Crazy Taxi.

Ohgr - Welt Great electronic upbeat music with a shrill sound, but can't really stomach it much any more =(

Hadouken - Music for an accelerated culture I had about a month of listening to noting but this, but I think it is very much music that represented a certain time of my life (clubbing a lot!)

Doves - Some Cities - Still enjoy but wouldn't say it is essential. Depends on my mood.

    Honorable-
Korn - The Untouchables - Amazing stuff, angsty, but very well crafted and a classic in my opinion. Can't get into their other albums!

She Wants Revenge - She Wants Revenge - The monotonuse voice can grate, but I love the 'darkwave' sound. Not fresh enough to be a favourite though.

Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters - Great funky stuff. Harmless but enjoyable

Black Eyed Peas - Elephunk Great fun with none of the annoying bullshit of their previous album.

Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles Chiptune-esque. Some songs are brash and boring but there are some standouts that more than make up for it.

    Birthday Massacre -Violet Very Unique.

Good Charlotte - The Young and the Hopeless Standout in the genre. Used to have it on in my car all the time at the end of uni last year.

Ladytron I love Ladytron but their albums have too many 'lulls'. Witching Hour is their best. If they combined the standouts from each of their albums into one, you'd have a killer album.

Rammstein - I love all rammstein, so I can't choose one album.

The Prodigy - Again, I can't choose just one album. Going to see them in July.

    Boards of Canada

    Queens of the Stone Age

Wow, the list turned out longer that I had anticipated! I have many phases and I love collecting music. I have missed out some artists I really enjoy but just don't, and didnt, regard as essential. What do you think of my choices? I'd love to read yours.

I don't have a huge collection, but from what I have I think that my favourite album is "The dark side of the Moon", I simply love it!

I have, on estimate, 250 CDs.. =) I have to admit, I have never listen to that album.. it's been on my 'to listen' list but I keep neglecting to get it..

Also, how does everyone 'enjoy' their music? My laptop has a USB soundcard hooked to my stereo, and I have a 16gb Nano with all my CDs ripped to 192k MP3. Nano won't hold it all, roll on when I can rip it all to 320k ;)

As someone raised in a household of music lovers, it's natural that I have a large music collection, not to mention the fact I spent many years in different bands. Due to the nature of my current work, I find having something playing in the background helps with creativity and it's rare I just have an album on loop. I'm nowhere near achiving my goal yet, but one day I hope to have copied my entire collection onto a hard drive so that I can keep all the originals in our spare bedroom and stop it from spilling into the living room as it does presently. Since my other half is also a music fan, it's rare we have a quiet moment - even though our neighbours don't always appreciate the wide range of tastes we demonstrate between us!

Segafreak, some awesome choices, especially the Emma Shaplin Yomanda remix. I always think one of the lines sounds like 'don't cry for chipsticks', lol. Also, Timo Maas' remix of 'We Are All Made Of Stars' is claaaaass.

Some great choices ave. I've never heard of Tangerine Dream but it sounds really cool.

That one was their worst, imho. Although Goneja is a great song and some of it is pretty interesting. It's an acquired taste, honestly. When I first heard them about 5-6 years ago, I didn't "get it" and it sounded like noise to me. I got into TGWOTR and from there branched out... now they're my favorite band. Try listening to "Singles Collect", it's a great way to get a glimpse of many of their most famous songs.

Industrial is the majority of what I listen to, though.

  16. randyrandall

    randyrandall Guest

Yeah, from reading around I did gather that TGWOTR was very different and seemed to leave a lot of people wanting the 'old' Skinny Puppy. I did have a phase of listening to that album on repeat.. and it directed me towards the rather lovely Ohgr.

I really used to like industrial but I kind of find myself leaving it behind, mainly because it was hard to find anything else to like...!

Although, with the advent of Spotify, I can now explore music more easily.. I think I'll have a listen to some old Skinny Puppy and see if I can rekindle an interest!

What are you favourite industrial artists (aside from what you already said) =)?
