If you have a "phat" PS2, i reccomend getting a network adapter, HDD and soft modding it instead of using a chip

Also if its soft modded, you can use ESR to play backups pretty easily (they just have to be patched before burning, iirc it tricks the PS2 into thinking its booting a DVD-Video)

Yeah, softmodding is the way to go if you can track down a network adaptor at a reasonable price. Otherwise I think most PS2 modchips are about the same nowadays. Mostly clones of brands that were once big when the console was current. The good thing is that they're dirt cheap now. Like $4-5, though the site I bought one from recently doesn't seem to stock them any more. :(

Am I the only one that sees an original Xbox logo on the main page? It changes to a PS logo when I enter the thread though. Odd.

I thought maybe he wanted to mod a PS2 into an Xbox. It could happen.

Softmodding. Network adapters are $13 on ebay, BUT cost $2 at Gamestop.

From what I have seen simply using a HDD with the HDD-OSD is far better than any mod chip
well that is if you want to run everything from the HDD but if you also want burnt disks than simply run ESR

not sure if ESR works if on HDD tho

You can mod with modbo v4, they are very good clone of the matrix infinity.
