To identify, if I recall correctly, 4 USB ports in the front with also the memory cards slots under the cover, these are I believe 40GB, 60GB, 80GB models with BC, the issue with these were the power supplies failing, there was a 2nd rev of the power supplies you should use in them. Also for running CFW, it's easier to install with one running OFW 3.55 or earlier. I'm sure a PS fan will reply with part numbers and also correct my assumptions.
i have the deluxe george forman edition, 60g base (ripped that out and whizzed a t in there) [CECHC03] depends on what you mean by 'prone to problems'? they ALL are, but rigorous maintenance will eliminate 'issues' altogether. my ps3 is one away from the relz model (20g iirc) both have the same interior. (aside pcb revisions, i don't know of the differences there. not counting that slim shit) so, are you after playing legit ps2 games/roms on the ps3 OR would you settle for the psn HD rebuilds for ps3? if the former, there's options but as the relz units are old, you'll be hard pressed to find one NOT opened. still, occupational hazard, and a good sign if anything (in context) and was maintained and loved. any BC ps3 that hasn't been opened up for maintenance (still has security seals) will raise questions, at least from this end anyway. if you don't mind the latter (ps3 slim) you can get psn HD rebuilds, but the tools to do this at home in the same quality results as psn isn't publicly available...yet! ... ps3 chunky all the way if bases are covered. :wink-new: otherwise, slim for the HD rebuilds, longevity and energy efficiency. (i don't have a slim, but if my BC model dies, may have to look into it...maybe?) [edit] typo.

CECHA and CECHB should be backwards compatible with all PS2 games. CECHC and CECHE are only compatible with some PS2 games. Also, remember that region encoding was a thing with PS1 and PS2 games. Any models after that are only compatible with PS1 games. That being said, all PS3s up to CECH-2500 can be jailbroken and have PS2 emulation installed (don't do this on CECHA or CECHB), but like the hacked Xbox emulator files for the Xbox 360, don't expect all games to run perfect.
^^ i've yet to find a ps2 or ps retail (or rom) that stuffed me on the BC ps3. could happen if i liked EVERY ps2 game, which isn't the case. NONE of my 350 strong PAL-EUR retails was spat out/refused. (and i'm not compiling a list, screw that. will do one day when i get round to cleaning game case labels and dumping the remaining disks and scanned label covers...then UPLOAD to my favourite haunt!) ... this may help?
