I have been playing quite a bit of GC lately and finally got into crystal chronicals. I know a lot people don't care for it and I didn't at first either. I bought it on sale for $10 USD about a year abd a half ago, but only recently started playing it a lot. But it got me in the mood for some more 2+player RPGs. I already have baldurs gate dark alliance and zeld four swords (which really isn't an RPG) so leave these two out. I am also not too interested in turn based stuff because it tends to bore people who don't like RPGs. So what does everyone recommend? I was thinking about "legend of mana on SNES" I am sure there are more I just need a little help.
Any of the installments in Namco's Tales series support multiple players. I've got Tales Of Symphonia on GC and Tales Of Destiny II (Tales Of Eternia, in Japan), and they both support 4 players, and I know the other installments (Tales of Phantasia, Tales Of Destiny, the true Tales Of Destiny II) support at least two. Tales of Symphonia comes highly recommended, btw. Also, I know you said that you wanted to avoid turn-based RPGS, but Final Fantasy III (VI) on the SNES has the option to set certain characters to controller 2 in battle, essentially making it a two-player game. I'm not sure if this feature is retained in the PSX version, though.
I thought tales of symphonia on GC wasn't really a true multiplayer game? Isn't the multiplayer game really scalled back in comparison to the single player game? What systems are Tales of Phantasia, Tales Of Destiny and the true Tales Of Destiny II on?
You can control characters in battle with second controler. Other than that' it's a single-player game. For fun - you can play Shining Force 2 on Megadrive with 2 people (you have to enter some secret code in the beginning). One player controls the party, and one - the monsters. Pretty funny if you ask me I can't remember other 2-players real-time RPG's right now, but I'll try to do it later.
GSL just mentioned both of the ones I was going to suggest - Tales of Eternia and Final Fantasy VI. Super great ones. My girlfriend and I share single player RPGs, like FFX or Skies of Arcadia (she's a gamer in training) - and it's almost like two player cooperative.
