Ok let me begin by saying if anyone thinks this violates the rules feel free to remove it or let me know and I will edit it.

Basically I work at Gamestop and last week I did a store look up on the GameCube version of Ikaruga. I found a mint copy at a store about 130 miles away and had them ship it to my store so I could buy it. I finally got it to day and im playing the crap outta it. Im not to good yet at the whole swap colors thing, ive always been the type to watch the bullets and slide through gaps to survive lol.

Anyways more to the point I know that Radiant Silvergun is the prequel to Ikaruga and I really would love to play it. But sadly as far as I can tell it was never released in the US :( I am looking at Region Modding one of my saturns and getting a import but they are crazy expensive ATM.

Is there anyway I can play the game without region mods and a import? I have never played it before and im hesatent about dropping the cash and risking the life of my only working saturn. Has the game ever been put on anything like Gametap or something or had a dedicated program to emulate it alone? I know there isnt a Saturn emu out there that works nor do I think I could find a image.

So, do any of you guys have idea where I can test drive the game?

I recommend modding your Saturn to play burned discs, get a Radiant Silvergun ISO file, change the region code with that one tool available online, burn it, then play it. The game's long out of print and I cannot honestly recommend you paying 200 USD for it.

In the likelihood it does see a re-release on some other modern format, well, definitely get (read: buy) it that less contentious way then! I hope Treasure can come around to bringing this shooter back again, lest there be some porting/licensing issues that would arise.\

I don't support console piracy for the sake of cheaping out because a person is too good to buy games; this is the special case for a game OOP, with a sky-high aftermarket price, and with no other release available. In that sense, it doesn't fit the definition of 'piracy' to me.

Racketboy.com and nfgames (nfggames?) have info on modding your Saturn various ways.

I can. But find someone who can get it for you from Japan for 130-150 USD (for a mint copy). It costs as much as two new current gen games. So what? At least that's the argument that convinced me to buy a copy.

That's a pretty lame argument. It is piracy. The only question is, if you care or not.

Thanks for the tips guys. Im looking into buying the game and wouldnt mind having it but I usually dont just buy stuff because its rare (unless I get a really good deal on it) so I would have to buy this game strictly to play it.

I was hoping some fans had made like a dedicated emulator strictly for the game that ran it fairly well :(

Hows Mame these days? Last year I tried RSG and it was definitely getting there.

I got my RSG because some guy messed up his listing on the UK ebay and put it in a weird section, listed it as "RSG for Sega Mega CD", something like that. Didn't pay very much for it. Minty + spine.

Of course truth is there are much better shooters out there, all a lot cheaper.

There is a Saturn emulator, it's years since I played it but it wasn't too bad.

a cheap action replay for your saturn is a good way to play imports. you can't play back ups but from what i here, it's definitely worth picking up the game if you've got the funds.

Well I have the funds but I really want to get Rock Band on 360. I mean I have alot of people to jam on RB with right now so can I really say no to them and buy a 10 year old import saturn game I cant even read.

Personally I want to play the game, but if its not as good as some of my favorites then it will just sit in a case and look preaty while my mates beat me in the head with large sticks for not getting RB :(

ah, man... i'd have to go with rockband then... it truly is an amazing gaming experience rocking out with your friends. by the end of the year, with rockband 2 and all the downloadable content, there's supposed to be over 500 songs to play. go for rockband.

Radiant Silvergun is worth it. One of the best designed 2D shooters ever made in my opinion. And the Saturn version has a TON of replay value over the arcade version.

Two things to keep in mind:
    1. You have to play Radiant Silvergun for score. You have to. You have to really get into RS to really appreciate it.

    2. Even if you're weird and don't like it, you can always turn around and sell it to someone else. ;-)

if you're not planning on buying it, just mod your saturn. That's...the only way to do it.

Well RSG is very import friendly, you don't need to be able to read/understand any of the lingo.

just burn the disk on a CD-R, no one's losing money since the game is out of print anyway:p (and never released where you live probably)

You do not need to mod your saturn to play CD-R.

Ragion-change the game's ISO with the relevant little program and then just do the swap trick. It's been working for me since 1972.

Bit of useless history for you. Back in the day Radiant Silvergun was sold in the US by what was then Gamestop. When the Saturn died an early death Babbages imported some of the more popular titles that never got an official release. Radiant Silvergun was one of them.

I may try the swap trick a couple times on my saturn just to try out the game but I heard alot of people saying that it can damage your system.

And as for Gamestop selling the imports back in the day that is freaking awsome. I wish they still did it today :)

Just do put some tape on the cd open sensor and do swap. I did it a lot and is very easy.

The swap trick will damage your system if you are bad at it maybe. But if you do it smoothly it'll hold up to the abuse.

But if you import RSG, it's VERY easy to play it without modding your system. I got a cheap little memory cartridge when I bought my first used Saturn which I later found out lets you boot Import discs. But the best thing to do is just buy the Action Replay 4MB PLUS and you can play Import games, even those that use the RAM cartridge like Marvel Vs Street Fighter.

If you go the CD-R route you should atleast try to get a modchip. It's infinitely better than doing a SwapTrick all the time. Ofcourse if you install a Switch that handles if the lid is Open or Closed, you could Swap in a CD-R of the Sega Saturn System Disk, and then leave the Saturn on like all the time.

Might want to wait for the 360 Remake. I hear they're working on it.
