http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/31/flatmii-streams-games-to-your-wii-via-usb/ amazing! it acts just like an NPDP GDEV/ODEM (or NDEV/ODEM combo if you wish) with the host PC just transferring the image ( i wonder if you can get any debug feedback with some extra circuitry) in its iso form. Although the Wii is encrypted, at least one group of people has decrypted the key (although not published it) and it could mean a ton of things for prospective Wii devers =) PS: watch the video to get the whole picture and how simple it is apparently. PS2: Calpis (or anyone who knows), is it possible to make a splitter and a switch so as to accommodate both FLATMII and actual DVD-Drive in the same console and just select the appropriate device by the switch?
I was just reading the Engadget article myself. I'm certainly interested to see how this turns out... Going by the instructions on the FlatMii site, the device acts as a pass-through. You can install it by itself or with a Wii DVD Rom plugged into it.
They usually are. I love homebrew like everyone else, but I know as much as everyone else that most people use flash cards and PSP exploits and modchips to avoid paying for games. Which doesn't mean there aren't people using them exclusively for homebrew/backup/ease of transportation.
Isn't that what this is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8-9kMCylp0 ? Seems like a good product, gotta love disc emulators.
I thought generic odem (optical disk emulation) boards were expensive? piracy or homebrew, either way I ll certainly try and install one if the price is right and the reviews are good.
no idea. I visited their website and they don't have any resellers listed (Although they do provide an email in case you want to be one). My question is this though: how would such a small PCB with a few chips compare to the mighty ODEM PCI boards found in official devkits? And it says something about USB2.0 data transfer.. so what does the FLATMII PCB actually do?
its from the same "team" that had the DVD emu out for the GC .. actually it they didnt release it for GC ;(
Every disc based console should have an adapter like this one. Plugs into the drive flat cable and stream data from an external device.
I was just checking the Reseller's list too, just to see if this really was legitimate. There's quite a few places selling it and accepting orders for the first batch. I'd love to see something like this for the Dreamcast.
Nintendo's mistake was not encrypt the bus with a per unit key, like happens on PS3 and XBOX360. Thanks to that, you WON'T see such a thing on the PS3 until it's drive is cracked/hacked and you would need to extract the information from the 360 DVD drive firstly to get it working on *yours* XBOX360...
