I'm sure some peeps here are proud owner of the fabulous KORG DS-10 software for the NDS. here you can post your creations, doesn't matter how good or bad they are. It's also not really a game, so I decided to put it into OT. so here's my very 1st attempt with that software which took me about 1 hour after lot's of screwing around with decays, attacks, cut-off etc. also excuse the bad sound quality. will probably make an other upload later with better sound settings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA60FfJFN_g you may also talk about the software it self, pros. & cons., tricks & hints, suggestions etc. as for my part, I think that only 16 patterns are far too few to create a good song. you are limited such strong, you can't even create an old C64 SID classic like cybernoid or such. also I think that there is no possibility of using the pots, buttons and slider in realtime while running a song. this is taking a lot of life-act flair. anyway, I would be glad, if someone here can show ways which probably could bypass such limitations (w/o using two devices parallel) looking forward for some cool stuff
Played around on my mate's copy, fun to screw around with it but came away feeling it was probably more of a toy than a tool unless you were dedicated to the format (I can see a lot of the chiptune scene adopting it). Only trick I can remember figuring out was quickly flicking between octaves to create a rudimentary kind of arpeggio effect, a la SID etc. Pretty sure that had to be done manually, it's been ages now though. EDIT: just watched your video. Good stuff!
ok, just investigated the net. and now I feel bit idiotic that I have bought the old version and not the DS-10+, even it was 2nd hand and cheaper. but on the other hand, I was looking for the (+) quite hard but couldn't find it on the fast the DS10+ has doubled the tracks, drum kits, VCO etc. from the DS-10. and the best of all, it allows you to change anything while running a song in real time. DANG!!!
Great software, I tried it a couple of months ago and was stunned, amazing for being DS software! I liked your video, pretty cool! The DS-10+ is for DSi or just an enhanced version for DS?
As far as I know, Korg DS-10+ was programmed to take advantage of the DSi's extra RAM and thus brings no benefit to DS users. Having said that, I'm waiting for my DS-10 to arrive.
you have benefits as a DS user, just not the whole bunch. if you had watched the press video, they do explain it in quite details btw. thanx alchy an tchoin
Interesting, I hadn't heard of the + version. Don't have a DSi so I wouldn't be getting it anyway... Btw can you not white-text, tatsujin? It's unreadable on the white forum theme.
lol, that's funny. never noticed that, since I have black forum theme. thought that would be standard, since I never had changed anything since registration.
made an improved version, now with artificial mario jingles inside http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx8B8IcD1SU
You know you do have a track editor too This was one title I found hard to find, finally found it as a recommended title in Book Off and snatched it away. The title was also designed by Nobuyoshi Sano aka Sanodg who did a lot of music for Namco back in the 90s including tracks for Tekken, Rave Racer, Ridge Racer, Victory Lap, Alpine Racer and others. One of the best techno musicians out there
Good stuff. Not tried it as I don't have a DS, but talking about handhelds & music I've been playing around with PSP's Rhythm 8 and a bunch of organ and Atari 2600 samples, creating a kind of 70s sci-fi VG hybrid. May take it to my PC and put them through Reason's samplers shortly.
OK, so for DS users: you can edit songs "live" (during playback) and mute tracks in "Song" mode. http://www.aqi.co.jp/product/ds10/jp/index.html
http://www.myspace.com/thefalloftheempire song: Pi (it's a live rehersal, 1-mic recording). The opening synth line is the DS-10. [*We've also got a whole floor full of pedals, sampler, drum machine, and floor toms, the last of which are the only "real instruments"*] Then at the end, the bass swells are the DS-10 again, but I might switch that out with something else. Then, the next track (Black flack) is similar: DS-10 main line for the intro (though I accidentally deleted that save file, or overwrote it, like a fucking idiot the other day... so I'll have to build it up from scratch again). I don't know whether I should feel embarassed or awesome to use a DS live. Peace.
you mean the song mode? as I stated above, that makes only real sense if you still can controll the knobs in real time, which unfortunately is only possible from DS-10+ on. hence for a visual video, playing through patterns manually is more interessting to watch than running down boring song patterns what title do you talking about?
It's music, I'm going to listen to it rather then watch some guy press buttons on a screen which isn't that much more intresting.... You need to learn to use the Kaos pad as you can do some interesting effects which will sound like you are using the knobs. Anyway you're not using the knobs at the moment  Title as in software, as in DS-10. Here is Sanodg using it properly Although I want to get a DSi now that DS-10 plus (limited edition... drool...) is out... as it effective gives you double the channels and double the drums Linking it with a DS means I get 6 channels and 12 drums (which can be turned into simple sound channels). Real chords here I come. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQcp2Mkt_-A&feature=channel
I use the song mode for making a song. I don't use youtube to lissen to some lo-fi mono music I know the chaos pad. but again here, you can't play a song and use the chaos pad at the same time with the old DS-10 software.
