But besides the first set having Sugata Sanshiro the rest of the films I know NOTHING about and wondered if anyone here has seen them and could chime in. I'm torn between those two sets and the Blu rays of Yojimbo, Sanjuro and the Kagemusha. Wondering if anyone had some insight.
The Amazon reviews have some good info. I have not seen the early works, but love both Yojimbo, and Sanjuro. I have both of these on Laser disc, and also upgraded to the DVD versions. If you have not seen it yet, The Hidden Fortress is also very good.
Well if anything the first set gives insight into Segata Sanshiro commercials and where those came from
Loved that movie. You can clearly see how George Lucas got his inspiration for the way that C-3P0 and R2D2 interact with each other in the Star Wars films. The interplay between the two bumbling main characters is basically the same.
I'm hoping for blu ray releases of the Hidden Fortress and Roshamon soon as well as other Kurosawa films that aren't yet on Blu Ray but the sets in question. Blu Ray releases seem unlikely.
Those sets are very nice. I have not scene any of his earlier works, just the mainstream releases. Ran and Seven Samurai are some of my favourites. Also check out his film Dreams. Very surreal and based on Kurosawa's own dreams through his life. The Eclipse sets will probably not be released on bluray so I might snag a few of them at the next B & N Criterion sale. ^_^_^
