'The Express' aka 'Nintendo Express' - My Holy Grail of NES Prototypes! Awhile back you might remember I made a thread asking about BDL's Nintendo Express, a portable NES that never got released. http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1034 I typed out the first article that EGM had on it. this article did not include a picture. some of the replies here pointed out that it was an April Fools joke. well I don't think it was. Now, I've found a later EGM article on The Express that also has a picture of it. [ Biederman Design Labs] BDL's Nintendo Express aka 'The Express' which was, according to this later EGM article, apparently picked up by Camerica to be marketed. 'The Express' pre-dates the GameAxe | 'Game Axe' by a number of years. maybe GameAxe was based on The Express ? here it is: from EGM Number 23 - June 1991 - page 30: .....yeah, yeah, i know, i suck at taking digital photos & the internet...sorry for posting large somewhat blurry pictures.....but I hope some of you find this worthwhile. there were several portable NES units-- some that came out, and at least one other, that portable Famicom, of which a picture was recently posted--it was just a prototype, probably not unlike The Express.
I disticntly remeber seeing another pic in a magazine somewhere of the Express, where it had a 2nd model Supervision-like shape, but with a larger screen area, and a controller hooked up into the bottom of it. I could have sworn this was in Nintendo Power. Damn I wish I'd saved all those magazines.
And stay tuned, for "When 80's design Attacks!". Next, on the Ugly Fucking Console network! Good job finding the magazine, dude.
