There's repeating symbols that correlate with similar answers. 9 has the same symbol as 18, 36 and so on.
The symbols shift every time you try it as well, so it gives you the impression that it's changing its "reading" based on your choices every time. Also, If you do the math, you'll see that you're going to get the answer that they want you to get. eg, 99: 9+9=18, 99-18=81; 98: 9+8=17, 98-17=81; 97: 9+7=16, 97-16= you guessed it, 81. You'll see that the correct answers in each ten number set all have the same symbol. By the way, I'm generally horrible at math, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you might always end up with one of the following as your answers: 81, 72, 63, 54, 45, 36, 27, 18, or 9.
simple math! Haha, look at the sybole 9, 54 or 72, they are always the same. Looks pretty tricky at first, but when you get the hang of it, its totally understandable.
