Well, after a lot of consideration, i've decided to start documenting my trip to Japan. To help with this, i've made a website that I'll update when I've got both time, and information. The site is going to be both a resource for those who are seeking to travel to Japan (or hell, even travel in general), and also serve as some light entertainment. Of course I haven't actually move to Japan yet, but some of the most relavent information actually comes in the planning stage of any trip. Therefore I thought it could be quite interesting to show my thought processes throughout the entire ordeal. Moving to Japan is no easy task, especially for someone like myself who doesn't have a degree. It's not much at the moment, but as time goes on, it'll grow and become quite the informative site. At least that's what I hope. You can see the site at: http://www.thegaijinstory.spookyshaunt.co.nz/japan/ Yoroshiku onegaishimasu ^^ Nannou
Update Sorry to bump this.... but I've moved hosting and so won't be updating the previous site address... and chances are it'll be taken down soon enough. The new site can be found at: http://www.alieninjapan.com I hope this site will actually prove useful to some of you guys. It is a bit of a unique perspective for most (me being a New Zealander) but I'm sure a lot of what I go through will be similar to people of any nationality.
Nice one - always nice to read what I will be doing when University is finally over for me! Good luck with everything.
Dude why dont you post that here? I'm too lazy to goto another site... That and you'll save some money.
Yeah I see where you are coming from, but it's too hard to give my (PC challenged) friends, directions to this site. It's actually really cheap hosting (NZD$150 for 1 year) besides, I've got money saved for these sorts of things I wanted to keep it simple so it's not only informative for people who are looking to travel to Japan, but also useful for my friends to keep up to date with what I'm doing. Most of my mates are pretty slow when it comes to computers, so telling them to go to 'alieninjapan.com' is way easier than trying to direct them around a forum.
Sorry for the bump again. But after 2 years of planning, and 10 years of aspiring to get to Japan... I have arrived. YAY! So now that I'm in Japan, things will get a lot more interesting. I've only been here for just on a week, but theres some decent stuff up on the site already. Let me know what you think... praise, criticisms... whatevers! (sorry for the crap Blog style layout... I don't do well with web related things so a blog was the easiest way for me to make the site) Have a look at: www.alieninjapan.com
It's nice to see that you made it here but don't makle any judgements yet. It takes a long time before you can understand life here. What part of Japan are you in? I wanted to check out your site but all I got was the following. MySQL error! Error establishing a database connection! Are you sure you have typed the correct user/password? Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname? Are you sure that the database server is running? Yakumo
ouch, I've seen that before, however it was only temporary while the Hosting company seems to do work on their servers. Does this happen all the time? I just went to the site myself and it worked fine. Hopefully it was just temporary. As for where I live. I'm living in Shibuya-ku. About 10 minutes walk from central Shibuya-eki
Thanks for doing this. I'm planning on heading to Japan after I graduate and something keeps telling me I won't come back. Anyway, the blog provides alot of good info, it 'll help to keep the culture shock down some.
It's quite the sticky place, or so it seems from the ex-pats etc that I have talked to. One guy said he came over here for a 2 week holiday. He's been here 20 years.
