I took the opportunity to go and see this yesterday and was incredibly dissapointed by the organisation of the story and the occasional plot changes to suit the big screen. Has anyone else seen it yet? What did you think?
I liked the book and have yet to see the movie. The first 5 minutes I saw from the preview looked good and promising. How did they change the plot? It seemed kinda strange to me that the first 5 minutes of the movie already seem to explain the whole meaning of dust and what it does. Which is not explained till like the last 50 pages of the book. So I guess I can see where this is going. I have the game for review, however I have no PS2.
I haven't read the books yes as ive bought them for my missus for christmas (managed to get a set of 3 hardback 1st editions for her) so once shes read them il have a go I haven't seen the film yet, but have played the game on both the wii and the 360, the wii version is poor, the controls are sloppy, and the graphics look weak even for a gamecube game, its just bland low res texture use most of the time, and the framerate is appalling! when you fight the boss at the end of the first level it slows down so much its virtually impossible to know whats going on for a few seconds as it grinds to a halt. as for the 360 version, it does look pretty nice, the ice level at the start does have some nice effects, specially the ice reflections, and the fur on the animals. The controls are slightly improved over the wii version, although still not perfect, but the game itself has a lot to be desired, some of the combat parts consist of parappa the rappa style button combinations, which is a bit crap, and the camera angles are also a pain in the arse as well With that said, ive played worse!
**SPOILERS*** The kid who Lyra finds in the village who has been a victim of intercision isn't the kid who we here about earlier but Billy Costa instead, who lives rather than dies. Lord Asriel turns up in the retiring room with only a slide and no severed head. At no point in the film do we ever hear about Rogers dissapearance, Lyra just seems to know. Despite some things seen in the trailer, the film ends at a very unusual point and misses them out. Lyra goes to Svalbard before she goes to Bolvangar. And after all of that, the film seems to rush over many points, over dramatise some events and play down others. The first time she meets Iorek Byrnison, right up to the part where he gets his armour back takes about a minute, she pursuades him so easily it's almost laughable.
I lost interest in this being released as a movie when I heard all reference to the church/christianity was removed. His Dark Materials, awesome books, read them a few years ago.
makes me wonder what happens in the end. afterall asriel used billy originally to open the portal by cutting his daemon? or did i forgot how the story goes in the years? or did they change the movie THAT much? sucks anyway.
You mean Roger. Roger's the one who dies at the end. BTW, this whole threads become spoilerville, don't read if you haven't read the book\seen the movie.
I haven't read the book or seen the movies but from what I've heard it's supposed to be like, I guess the opposite of the Chronicles of Narnia? I've done some research but it's still a little unclear. I haven't talked to anyone that's read the book or seen the movie...
