Cool "article" about graphic quality of some systems: - PS1, Sat, N64 http://games.ign.com/articles/962/962772p1.html - DC, PS2, Xbox http://games.ign.com/articles/963/963351p1.html Agree? Disagree? Post your opinions here.
Surprisingly, I agree with a lot of these, though they failed to mention that Shadow Of The Colossus has a terrible framerate. And why did this only have to be about 3D graphics? A lot of Saturn 2D games look way better than Panzer Dragoon!
I think Sony / Team Ico should reboot Shadow of the Colossus on the PS3, and also toss in all of the ideas that they threw out the window as well.
I like how (as so often happens) the Dreamcast's best games average to be better than the best of other systems =P. I disagree with the three 'serving a creative vision' choices for ps1 sat n64. While all three games did serve a creative vision in the sense of story and overall design, I don't see that they specifically put forth this vision through their visuals.
Good to know I'm not crazy. Everytime I told someone that game chugs a little they assured me it didn't. Cool article, totally agree with Perfect Dark even if it chugged. Games still don't have that many weapons and stuff, and that was one of the first games I saw reload animations in. I barely saw that in PC shooters back then too, unless I wasn't playing the right games. I think graphics totally matter, at least in this present day, even if they aren't everything, they do add to the game. They don't call them video games for nothing. for last gen I think the biggest thing was realistic lighting.
they're assholes, they just use popular games to make a point about graphics which is ideal for n00bs but doesn't reflect the true story. On the n64 side of things Conker's Bad Fur Day deserves an honorable mention as the most technically elaborate N64 game in my view, and I think there's a lot of folks who'll agree - consider that it runs with 4MB of RAM! Also, on the Saturn there's better graphics than Nights. Azel: Panzer Dragoon Saga is drop-dead gorgeous and is a unique RPG, a deeper game than Nights in my opinion.
for worst visuals i would have considered FFVII outside battles i always wondered why they haven't used sprites on background like in saga frontier; it would have been so much better... also tecnical excellence at tekken 3? it's a joke! go see wipeout 3
I thought the Chronicles of Riddick was widely considered as the best looking game of the last gen. Maybe they changed their minds. Another game that looked great was Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. Oh, how I love that game.
Again, Conker:Live and Uncut takes the cake for best graphics on the XBOX. That game looks on-par with a good 360 title!
Yes. To this date, i'm amazed of what PD acomplished. It pushes the hardware to the point of having a 1080i resolution option! Plus there's nothing more fun on a racing game, than racing on Nurburgring-Nordschleife (22Km racetrack) or going 300+ Km/h on Le Mans. I would also add Ridge Racer Type 4, Wipeout XL and Wipeout 3 on PS1, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Final Fantasy XII on PS2.
Head Hunter for Dreamcast...very impressive at the time. Possibly Gran Turismo for the PS1, the first time I saw the night time replays with the reflections I was stunned.
I agree with most except Ninja Gaiden. There is no way that is the best looking game on the Xbox. Play Doom 3 and tell me that looks worse than Ninja Gaiden. That game was bump mapping at it's best.
as for the psone, i definitely missing Ridge Racer Type-4. awesome 3D game for its time!! and used the hardware to its sheer max. for sure!
Yeah, but compared to the Pc version it's not as special. It is cool though. Chronicles of Riddick had cool lighting and stuff as well. Ninja Gaiden and the DOA games didn't have loads of special effects but there really nice and clean looking. I was going to say that! I loved the lighting, but it is a little grainy looking.
