well many games leave all to the player how to behave, or even show the sexual part only at the end of the game.

i think the game was "true love" in which you could behave more or less badly cheating or not, having multiple girl at the same time risking to be discovered and dumped forever. You might even end up being alone for being bad to girls.

concerning the tentacle boy from mars, i guess your problem comes up with games in japanese... many are available in english nowadays, so you can guess what's to come ;)

No it's not any problem with the language, but the games themselves and the gamers surrounding it. The genre is defined by buxom/young/<insert fetish here> women bending over and taking it from "you" - the player. That is the first barrier for me - I have no interest in training my virtual avatar in such a way that he (and by extension, me) will engage in pretend sex with a non-existant woman. The second barrier is the male pride that comes from such an act, and the obsession boys have with such "naughty" games and images - those aren't the sort of people I want to be associated with, and they aren't the sort of people I could speak to about finding a meaningful, Japanese language text adventure with a mature theme (mature meaning mature, rather than mature meaning nekkid ladies).

I wanted to comment on this too - "well many games leave all to the player how to behave, or even show the sexual part only at the end of the game.
    "

That's fine, I wouldn't mind at all a game where the amount of sex is controlled by the player - but how to find such games? I can't keep buying random h-games on the offchance that I'll pick a good one (and can you imagine the look on my husbands face when the post shows up?!).

I suppose at the end of the day there are loads of games I know for sure I want to play, and those are naturally always going to take precendent over a genre I'm not keen on with potentially questionable subject matter.

i guess that on the net some webpages reviewing such games might exist, tought i haven't found one so far. buying all would be impossible and random guessing too. the genere is to wast and full of waste-games that would be a shot in the dark to find a gem.

this is why i've created this topic, because i'm sure that inbetween 1000s of trash games, some real gems worth playing might exist.

My biggest concern is the nature of the sexual content in these kinds of games, i.e. sex with school girls/child like women. Also the rape aspect of a lot of these games is unacceptable to me.

    It's just wrong.

I don't know whether this content is the reason most people play them, or if it is just a bunch of lonely guys that don't have the chance for real sexual interaction. I hope it is the later. But even if it is, I wonder on how this affects the people that play/watch it over the long term.

i agree. but it all depends on the games's target. if you deprive blood you don't play mortal kombat, right?

the only problem is that there is no good source of informations about this genere.

Let's change that to say FPSes...

    Cue Jack Thompson type rant.

Back to the point, yes there are games that feature girls of a underaged nature although nowdays commercially it has been tightened up so you don't get blantent games with very young looking girls. As it is drawn artwork, it isn't real and is it any different from a grown woman cosplaying as a schoolgirl? I have had a girlfriend who would get carded if she went to a bar on her own but never had any problems when I was with her (she was 26 before anyone write's their own age...).

As for rape and the like, yes it's horrible but saying that it happens much less in commercial titles and I know I've had girlfriends that liked to have forceful sex (note : Make sure the neighbours are not in...).

Ironically Japan censors more games over violence, where as America doesn't seem to care too much if you can smack a prositute to death and run her over a few times but you can't see your pixelated character having sex with her as that is just wrong and must be made an adult only title...

Back on topic, I feel compelled to write a list of games that people should play. :D (sometime later....)

Please explain how your (ex)girlfiend(s) sexual preference is equal to either the experience of rape and how that OKs the depiction of rape (as a plot/gameplay device/goal) within commercially produced videogames.

I guess the depiction of rape in games is just as OK as its depiction in films, manga or music.
Excluding taste, I don't see a reason to condemn even the hardest hentai shit. Some people may like it. There's still much more stuff around in the video/manga erotic scene that's a hell lot harder than what some player may experiences in a game.

The difference is that in films a rape scene is usually used to shock or sicken the audience, not to act as pornographic titillation. I'm a pretty staunch defender of freedom of speech, whatever form that speech may take, and I'd defend the right of the developers of these schoolgirl tentacle rape games to do so, but that doesn't mean that I have to approach the topic with quiet apathy like it's a reasonable thing for them to do. It isn't, it's fucking disgusting, and I wish they wouldn't, but it's not my country, it's not my culture, and at the end of the day - it's really none of my business.

You make an interesting point Karsten. I am not sure how to answer that one. I guess my counter point would be that I don't play games that victimize another being, violence is in a versus environment with a "survival of the fittest" type senario (I am fighting others, not attacking them as victims). Rape preys on a victim. It is not about sex, it is about violence. As Alchy says, turning that into a sexual act that provides a form of satisfaction to the viewer/player does not sit right with me.

One could argue about that, there are certain films that claim to use it in order to shock the audience, but the truth is pure entertainment. Good examples are Cannibal Holocaust and Man bites Dog I think. Though definitely not on the samel level quality-wise, they both show off rape scenes that are on a narrow path between shocking the audience and actually entertaining it. That was at least my impression, judging by the grade of seriousness in each scene. But I think at times this isn't even such a bad element to shoot a scene like this. To shock the viewer with his own reaction. I admit that this possible intention is only gonna hit a very limited amount of people.

I would've thought a better example was Irreversible, but regardless, all of these movies are at least perceived to be "shock" movies and not "porn" movies, which is a fundamental distinction - a distinction you make but don't seem to appreciate. Hentai games/anime/whatever that include rape do not do so to shock the viewer. Sexual arousal from the act is not just implied - it's expected. I find it hard to believe that you can't see the difference.

    guys guys theyre only videogames!

personally i dont find it more upsetting than taking pleasure in murder/genocide which is what everyother game these days promotes.

pretty funny how this type of gaming has alot of resistance within the gamer community while games about killing innocent people only have resistance from outside it.

I never liked that snuff-game from rockstar for instance but all you ever heard about it here was what a shame it wasent released in certain areas or how it had been censored in others, even tho it was proboably the most tasteless game i have ever seen (and a rather poor game on top of that).. strange how gamers moral clocks didnt pick thatone up?

Maybe this is because most extremely violent games are violent in an abstract or funny way, like Dead Rising or Mortal Kombat. Other take place in futuristic settings (Gears of War or Dead Space) and don't seem to serve realistic enough to awake feelings of moral complications. Also, a certain moral barrier against sex is still deeply rooted in some people, more than against violence. This comes up pretty often, i.e. in The Simpsons where Marge is glad she saved her kids innocence by sending them to grampa when they booked that stripper for Ms. Krababbel's bachelor party, then the scene changes to retirement castle and grampa shows an old album with comments like "and these are more Germans we shot... and there are more burned corpses..." ("God, how can you still sleep at night?" "We are on drugs" ^^).

Other games which do have strong violence AND a realistic setting have often been criticized (Manhunt, State of Emergency, GTA). I guess the amount of people who dislike the "15 space ninja tentacles rape a 10-year old" kind of manga/game/anime is probably not much higher than that of people who want Manhunt to be banned. There have been a lot of discussions about violent games in the past and none about sexual games, at least here in Europe and also in Australia/New Zealand. The US, well, that's a different thing. Gears of War gets released without any trouble but they had a discussion on FOX about an alien sex scene in Mass Effect.

I did not enjoy Manhunt either btw. It was just no good game, got all its attention from the violence.
    @Alchy
I know they're supposed as shock movies and I certainly did not gain any sexual arousement by watching these rape scenes.
Anyway, the posed rape scene is pretty attractive to not only a few people, that's why tentacle stuff sells so good. And as long as it is posed (or even just drawed), I don't see a reason to condemn it. After all it's just porn and that's a thing almost as old as humanity. If it would change people to rape rowdies, we would have noticed that by now.

Definitely, and for the most part I think it's completely ridiculous. It's ok to have an entire game based on decapitating people with shards of glass, suffocating them etc, but God forbid you fleetingly show two adults engaging in consensual sex. Absurd. That said:

I can only speak for my own culture, but this is definitely not the case in the UK. Any depiction of child abuse in a video game, especially if it was intended as erotica, would be condemned utterly. A significant portion of the populace are concerned about violence in games, certainly, but the moral outcry from a game distributed as widely as Manhunt depicting what you suggest would be completely unprecedented.

    Nah, it's a shit game.

I have to notice that these games come from Japan, a country in which sexual abuse on trains became so rampant that, in some places, female-only train carts had to be designated. Was it the rape games that caused all of this behaviour? Of course not. Again, my stance on this kind of material is that I just don't buy it, and I'm not about to tell anyone else what they can and can't publish, so long as in the making of it they don't infringe on anyone else's rights. Anyone that's prepared to act out rape fantasies in real life has massive psychological issues, and the games would be a symptom - not a cause. I don't think that porn is evil or wrong or anything like that, but still, the whole "schoolgirl tentacle rape game" thing just makes me crawl.

As for the child abuse, I don't remember any public case that dealt with children being involved into sexual acts. Also I don't know any such game that would have been released commercially in the West either, this seems to be rather a Japanese phenomenon (->Lolikon).
Talking about different cultures, here in Germany the outcry about violence in games is massive every time "something" happens (like a rampage). Manhunt is not the only game that is officially banned here (means you are acting criminal when selling it), others are e.g. Condemned (^^) and Dead Rising. In terms of sexual contents, there have never been any serious (the max was a 5sec cut in a news report which listed all the mean things in GTA:SA, but it was focussed rather on violence) outcries here. The hot coffee mod, BMX XXX, sex stuff in GTA IV and so on are tolerated almost without any mentions in news or cuts/mosaic. I guess while we have a sometimes really ridiculous way of censoring games concerning violence, sex is fairly tolerated.
Bless the UK & Austria for supplying us with uncut excesses of violence! ;)

Japan and its attitude towards sex is a science for itself. I still have to crawl myself into that topic deeply enough to fail a reasonable judgement on this, but so far everything I can say is that it is bigoted in any way it could be.
Japan is crowded with DVD shops that offer thousands of idol-DVDs, lots of them featuring preteen(-looking) girls on their way home to school (upskirt views inclusive!) - but then again, every hardcore porn movie is censored with a mosaic over the essential places.

Well, exactly. My point was that these games are not comparable to Manhunt, in the severity of content, or availability.

I've tried a few of the "dating sim" type of hentai games, but I've always found them extremely difficult. Even when they're translated to english, most of the characters reactions make no sense to me, and the consequences of the things you do are completely unpredictable. You pay attention to one girl, and she gets embarrassed and runs away... or you give her a innocent compliment and she hits or you or something. I've never been to Japan, so maybe this is actually what Japanese girls are like, but certainly not around here...
