The Horde (1994) by Chriystal Dynamics (beta, demo, preview ?)

Little update

I found the PC demo version (1,3mb):

Sadly I cant find a PKG unpacker for the "Toys For Bob" routines. Even QuickBMS does not support it If I understood it right. *sigh* Nothing to see here.

I purchased the japanese version of the Horde for the Sega Saturn.
-it included a nice physical map
-all videos are in japanese as well...quite...entertaining x'D

While comparing files from a "House of the Dead NFS" disc with the "The Horde" disc, I stumbled across this. Im not familar with the Saturn filesystem and Im aware some games just got released as a "mess of files"...but HOTD has just an ELF image and The Horde has gazzillion files, the bigger ones just beeing the AVI videos.






Im looking to purchase the Saturn demo of The Horde...the 3DO version...prefarable the japanese one as well^^...and Im still looking for early screenshots, demos, alphas, betas...etc.

I thought this was some sort of unreleased game at first. I'm not used to seeing anyone going after betas of an FMV game unless it was unreleased. Did you grow up with this one and develop a soft spot for it or something? I assume it's main appeal is the FMV aspect anyway since none of the shots in the OP are of the gameplay portion

Silhouette Mirage is another Saturn game with that "mess of files" formatting on the disc. Everything's just sitting out in the open.

Edit: Actually, it looks like this game has pretty good reviews. Gotta admit I wasn't expecting that! FMV really comes with its biases.

 

It was a "build a city, plant trees and defend it". The videos were just a nice topping. ^^

Ya, I grew up with this and would love to explore the past of this one.
