This seemed like an interesting topic to start. There's always plenty of people out there collecting the entire games line-up up for a certain console. One of the rare occurences is the discovery of a game that was never deemed released.

An example would be the PAL release of T-MEK for the 32X. It was only last year copies started to filter through.

Personally I would love to 'find' a 'new' Saturn release, be it PAL, USA or JPN.
I don't rule it out, but it's unlikely, sadly.

Please add more examples/stories. I'm very interested in what games have been 'found' in the last couple of years. (I'm talking about actual releases here, not proto's)

Also, what's the likelyness of finding such releases these days? I asked this questions to KinsukeJP (he compiled the famous Saturn and Dreamcast lists game lists at Gamefaqs) and he didn't rule out someone finding any new releases.
Another thing would be variatons. They are found more often (because there's so many out there). I recall a member of Digitalpress looking for years to find the longbox version of PSX MK3.

    Like said, all stories welcome!

Yeah I remember that. I bought the first one to appear on ebay, and for a good price (1/3 to 1/2 what it has subsequently been fetching). It helped that the seller lived near me though.

That said I found out afterwards that it was in fact known to some people long before that first auction. Quite a well known Italian collector had a copy or two back in the day.

The only other example I can think of straightaway is the Smurfs game for the SMS.

There's much debate about Return Fire on the saturn too so perhaps your wish for a new saturn game will come true at some point!

Personally I'd love to find a Pal BC Racers for the 32x.

There is many rumoured stuff around. I'd love to find something unknown aswell. I'm always excited too when I see something undumped. Even when it's some crap GB Multicart :)

Actual releases on old formats that weren't just promos are almost impossible to come by now. Yeah, it has happened (discovered Neo Geo AES games etc.), but mostly it is a "discovered" game that's released such as the games on Jaguar, and in those cases they were just repressed protos.

As for Saturn, the only thing that may happen is a couple of games that were finished but unreleased may surface. It is very doubtful, although I do know of a couple so you never know. They are very tightly controlled, though, so don't get your hopes up!

He's talking about the Smurfs 2 (Les Schtroumpfs Autour Du Monde) release.
Most copies seemed to come Czech (?!). I actually own a copy, bought it with a bit of luck in 1999 or so.

Retro you're talking about games like Maximum Surge?

True... I saw one copy in a ToysRus-like shop some years ago (was 150Francs, 15usd... And i prefered to take virtua fighter instead o_O)... So yeah, the game was released but extremely rare.

I was also searching for Bcracer PAL 32X... Somebody told be that it was unreleased because never appared on ebay. I doubt it.

About the 32x, some games were apparently finished... but never released... so... they may popup one day.

Smurfs 2 has surfaced "in the wild" all over the place in the last year to 18 months - France, Spain, Italy, Holland...
It now seems like it did have a very limited distribution back in the day, but just escaped anyone's notice until Mikko & Manu found about 20-30 of 'em in Prague.

Actual new games doesn't appear too frequently.
That's not the case with new cover variations though

Yeah, stuff like that, Return Fire, and maybe something else that was finished, even assigned a product number, but never released ;-) Unfortunately, it is just a distant memory now :-(

I've already played it. Someone even wanted to Repro those with Cover/Manual and everything. Never heard of it again then. Wonder what happened?

He didn't get permission. Of course, it would have to be released as an unofficial CD, and therefore require a modded console (or swap trick).

I don't see any of the companies involved in any of the games ever officially agreeing to that happening, TBH.

Hmm true, I remember an atari-homebrew-sequel to a game though, and they got permission from the original company to do that.

About 5 years ago i saw on a store dedicated to rare stuff sales a NES game called "somari" which resulted to be a hacked Sonic the Hedgehog game in a very early stage of development. Unfortunately they sold it before I could buy it. It looked like a conversion of the genesis game, not a hack of some other game, that is pretty weird... Anyway, it didn't look like a proto cart neither.

Somario is just a cheap Hong Kong pirate game. Nothing rare about it I'm afraid.

Yakumo is right, it's nothing special. Not only is the Somari rom everywhere on the net, it's a pirate cart.
