THIS! this is one of the most frustrating games played to date! touch ANYTHING and you're screwed, starting the level all over again! (touch wall, daleks or barrier generators WASTES you, notice the main character looks like robocop? and the sound effects on this game are WICKED!) destroyed MANY joysticks over this game, still gets on my tits thinking about it... robotz - atari ST
The Temple of the Ocean King in Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Every time you beat one of the proper (read: cool) temples you have to come back to this grey, generic dungeon and go through all the same rooms and do all the same puzzles you did previously, all while avoiding invincible enemies who can kill you in one hit. You have to do this FOUR TIMES. And it's timed. Dear god, it's timed. It was a really cool game otherwise, so why did they have to put this in?
I vaguely remember this, and I think that's the reason I never finished the game. I think I actually got pretty far into the game, but eventually that part became so annoying that I just gave up. I agree that it was a good game otherwise.
Everything in the PCE adaptation of War of The Dead basically. This gotta be the most annoying game I've played for the system excluding "falcon+ballistix".
I don't know, maybe that feeling in a lot of nes/snes games i played when you finally beat the last boss and what you get is "you can now play in hardmode" with no save/password functions. Im looking at you r-type III -_- i really wanted to try that hardmode too, but it took ages and then some to even beat the game to behin with. Never again. or maybe super ghouls 'n ghosts. kill last boss -> princess gives you a shit weapon and tells you to beat the game again WITHOUT CHANGING IT. oh come on. I hated that game so much because of that. The weapon was so BAD.
MGS2 - swimming section with Emma. My favorite game in the series but i hate hate HATE that part, It's just boring and on the higher difficulties it gets even worse because emmas health/02 is so small
I've had several but the one that's haunted me all my life is the hawk in Karateka for Commodore 64. No saves and only one life. After all the time spent getting to the last boss out comes his hawk and if u didn't have perfect timing to hit the damn thing you could kiss your game good bye.
Hah you made me remember another frustrating game: Last Battle. You had a shitload of chapters and only one life bar... lose it and game over, back to the very beggining. Never made it past the pirate ship. *not to mention it wasn't a very good game...
though i'd show that level on Z-Out with the kinder egg men, sometimes falling from above. i swear, it rubs me up the wrong way. it's single life-item status, lose a life, you lose ALL the weapons array and have to pick em up again as they occur! (level five 'geiger' is a bit rough, not as bad as level three by a long shot) ... Longplay Z-Out 13:40 in. (level four) [edit] typo
Wow, just saw the video. looking at how it was played out for Level 4, I would have easily died 3-4 times. Wonder how many times did the player played through the game to get this results.
only recently completed it on a single vessel (if you can believe it? i still question that day) mentioned it in the 'completed games' thread. sadly, it's as if i lost my 'mojo' just can't repeat that luck. if you like neck-breaking shmups with an UNFAIRLY difficult base setting, try 'Uridium 2' and make it to the third enemy destroyer fleet, THEN it gets SERIOUSLY insane on difficulty. as with Z-Out and Uridium 2, joysticks were destroyed as a result of CHEATING bastard computers. (aka: my crap skills and readines to do what ALL gamers do without exception if they're beat by the game, BLAME the tools, not myself!)
Is that the damn game where you break some circuit board & then are supposed to reset without any message prompt telling you to? NES Castlevania pits were definitely painful. Also, good call on the swimming in MGS2, was definitely annoying. I didn't like RE4 too much, but I remember protecting Ashley (?) while she did something was pretty bad.
I get 2 Rathalos Medullas on my first G-Rank hunt, but 15 Brachydios later I still can't get one Brach Medulla The Torture room escape in MGS Peace walker. Or basically any extreme button mashing in general
Try hunting with others. I solod most of G Rank lol, and it usually takes ~20 hunts to get those super rare drops even with the extra carve food bonuses. As you progress in the end game of MH3U you begin to loathe this icon when you see it on every goddamn recipe.
It was one of the first games I beat as a teenager. I thoroughly enjoyed it. But, don't play the Dreamcast version. Play the PS1 version. Easier control scheme. Also, Nightmare Creatures 1 was absolutely different and not fun. It's just one character that makes the connection between the 2 games. You don't have to play the first one at all, it gives you a 30 second recap and you're into the game.
