YOu need to get Urusei Yatsura! That game is amazing for a Mega CD. All real time animation that put anything else to shame at the time. Truly is a fantastic bit of work from Game Arts and also a very funny adventure game. The animation opening is worthy of the actual animation.

Other games to get are Batman (Don't know if it got a Japanese release), Poppuru Mail, Prince of Persia, Luna Silver Star Story, Luna Eternal Blue, SWITCH and Time Gal.

I think Popful Mail is about the only game that appears on 3 systems, and is the clear winner on the Mega CD.

yeah heard about that :) also the uruse~i yatsura must be great from hearing. thanks a lot. so what are other must have action titles? i think there are more shooters and arcade ports out than listed yet.
and how about the prices? which are good but cheap (up to $25) gems? and which are the upperclass priced gems?

If I only could have one game on the Mega CD then it would be Urusei Yatsura. :) It's a fantastic game and an excellent example of what a game based on Anime should be like. It even has 3 minigames, all you need to do is find some game cartridges. :D

The Game Cans are worth getting as they do contain games that were only available on the Sega Megadrive download service. Volume 2 is fantastic as it contains the lovely puzzle game Doki Doki Pengiun Land MD and the fiendishly fun game 16T. Volume 1 has more or less the same games that the Victor Wondermega disc has.

Other games I would get would be...

Afterburner III, it is more or less G-Loc but with a strangely inapproiate funky jazz soundtrack
Annet Futatabi a fun scrolling beat 'em up.
Dragon's Lair - As it is Dragon's Lair and has a nice slipcase
Heavenly Symphony - Although an F1 game, I do think it is a good game if you give it a chance, has a unique mode where you must be a driver and perform some task even if it is to get Ukyo Katayama from 12th to 8th in 4 laps...
NBA JAM - it's basketball and it should be cheap.
Prince of Persia - What more do you need to know?
Road Blaster / Time Gal / Thunderstorm FX - All are different from the Laserdisc games they are but all shoudl be cheap on the Mega CD, however if you want to play RB or TG properly then hunt down the harder to find Playstation or Saturn versions.
Thunderhawk - Was stunning when the Mega CD came out but now looks dated but still fun if you can handle the graphics.
Star Blade - Although the Playstation and 3DO versions are better, the Mega CD version has it's own charm.
Yumimimix - Not quite as good as Urusei Yatsura but still has charm and is nice to play.

Honourable mentions... Star Wars Rebel Assault, Sol-Feace, Sengoku Densho, Lethal Enforcers 1 and 2, Mortal Kombat, Fatal Fury Special, Cyborg 009, Gambler Jokocyushinha 2, AX-101

A mention to Ranma 1/2, after Urusei yatsura, this game lacks any decent gameplay and lacks anything that would remotely need a CD-ROM for, however if you are lucky enough to find a game with the Telephone card (it wasn't limited edition, every game had it but as the game was shite I can't see it sold a lot) then you'll find the telephone card being worth many many more times then the game.

Like Yakumo said, Urusei Yatsura! is fantastic. Yumimi Mix is another great Game Arts title. Snatcher would surely be another one to have. Detonator Organ, Illusion City, Rise of the Dragon and Shadowrun are nice if you enjoy other Cyber-punk style adventures.

As far as action titles, Anet Futatabi, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and Final Fight CD are worth picking up. Oh, also forgot about Earnest Evans!

Oh yes, Snatcher but you want to get the English Language version then copy the disc and patch it to Japanese region for your Wondermega. Isn't it strange that the ONLY English version of Snatcher was on the Mega CD. I so wished for a Saturn translation but as it is the Japanese one had to do. Policenauts should have been given an English translation as well.

Dark Wizard gets a strong recommendation from me. Dense plot, surprising enemy AI, and an excellent interface make for a satisfying turn-based strategy game even today. I also want to echo the praise for Starblade, which is possible on the Mega CD by omitting the flat shading and rendering the ships as empty wireframes.

thanx for all the replies :)

lol..yesterday i bought a big bunch of mega-cd games. but still a lot ot go on like ninja warriors, keio, bari arms...

btw. could someone post a list of all japanese releases? i think there never was a JPN release of lords/winds of thunder, right? but the hell, why?

    -sol-feace dissapointed me. it's a technical wreck :(
-silpheed is quite outdated. what was very fun and exciting back then when polygons get more and more popular, it's almost nothing remarkable anymore nowadays.
-dennin aleste is probably my best rebuy from yesterdays purchase. but even this one left a slight bad aftertaste on my tongue. it's nice especially the mode-7 like effects of zooming enemies, but it lacks in colours and also it's also not the uber technical beast as is usual from other compile stuff. fact is, musha aleste is better in any aspects.

Just go to Sega's history pages. There you can get all tech infor on ALL Sega Hardware until Saturn as well as full Sega and 3rd party official game releases. I'm in work at the moment so I don't have the URL but if you can't find it yourself I'll postthe link when I get home.

Where did you hear that? I'm pretty sure I've seen Winds of Thunder for Mega CD. Not 100% sure but I seem to remember seeing it for Mega CD. Though it would make sense to me if it didn't come out as the PCE was popular in Japan back then, more than the Sega CD I believe.

    http://www.megadriver.org/mega-cd_catalog_project.html

There you go in English with all the info and includes the special software, the pack in Victor software, a CD cleaner and a music cd with a Mega CD game.

The Mega CD is probably the easiest machine to get a full set as there is nothing really rare or overpriced although there are a few special edition pieces of software.

Mega CD software is plentiful. Mega CD hardware is another story. I haven't really tried hard, but here in the US I've never seen a JPN-region unit in the wild. But even US-region Sega CD equipment is getting rarer and rarer, if only because it didn't last very long to begin with. I'm hoping to pick up a Wondermega, Multimega or some other integrated unit at some point in the future. You know, after the economy improves. :)

Are you sure? I've got 2 Sega CD systems and I didn't pay more than maybe 15 bucks for each. But if that's true, I'll make sure to hang onto them.

as for japan, all the Mega-cd hardware sure getting more rare to find as well the prices rising up to almost infinite. i checked a very lose Mega-CD 2 in the potato the other day and it was priced with over 8000JPY (over $85 at time). also they had a boxed JVC wondermega with a bit shabby box for 28'000JPY, which compared still seems to be cheap.

even if hard-off shops, well known for their cheap any kind of 2nd hand electronic junk, start to declare a wondermega as a "chô rea aitemu" (super rare item), you will realize that the happy time of cheap treasure digging may be finally came to an end.
