So last night I was walking around and this huge piece of our hardwood floor broke off in my foot. I got most of it out but what seemed to be a small piece was still in there. So first thing we went to the Emergency room (well more a treatment center)

I hobble in on one foot they take my info and bring me in pretty quickly.

Every one was like ewwwwwww when they saw it in my foot THEN they numb me up and take it out.....

there was a 2 inch piece of my living room lodged in my foot.

I'm still sore and on Anti biotics. THey gave me vicoden for the pain (I think I'll save that for later.......)

so yeah.....how's your new years going

    Wow, I feel your pain...

A few months ago, I was fixing my tube amp, and a small prong got on the floor and somehow pierced my foot, so I ended up having to go to the emergency room. Beforehand though, my brother tried to take it out with plyers, but that was unsuccessful. Talk about pain.

what kind of cheap-ass-sh&% flooring do you have that caused that to happen?!

Sounds like a lawsuit against the flooring company LOL

on time i stepped on a pencil and the wood got stuck in my foot. I left it in and kept skateboarding for a good month or two and my whole toe turned greenish purple. Then one day i took a knife to it and popped the 2 inch bubble and pushed the wood out.

    it was pretty gross.

I thought about it. Our house is almost 20 years old and so is the floor

But GOD.....it's not so much the pain but waiting and dealing with this sting and tickle in your foot and you can't walk and you gotta go the bathroom every so often. I have an axiety disorder so I was having a panic attack the same time I got this thing in my foot. Now that it's out I have no idea what the wound looks like.

Yeah I don't wish this on any one. I have a high pain tolerance but other factors make it hard to deal with. The Unknown if you will. All night I was worried about infections including the dreaded and now quite common Staph infections. So yeah....... a real ordeal.

Erm, suggestion, don't mess with the stuff. Yes it does make you feel good but it really messes up your ability to not get angry at the drop of a hat.

My new years sucks as does virtually every day. Single, unemployed (and unable to find a job for 4 months and counting!), best friend is in her recluse mode so I have no chance of cohercing her to have a conversation with me that will last more than a few minutes.

Maybe I'll go out and drink myself silly.

Got your story licked! When I was a young teenager I lived in the countryside. One of the yearly pastimes of the small village community we lived in was a yearly "float" (basically dressing up in stupid costumes and standing on the back of tractor trailers or flatbed lorries). Each year there were different themes and everyone was expected to take part.

Anyway, at the end of the day I was helping the local farmer take the float apart and I jumped off the back of the trailer straight onto a piece of wood I hadn't seen. Worst of all, there was a 6inch nail driven through the wood (that's what the farmer had used to fix the plank to the back of the trailer).

It passed through my flat shoes (my favourite pair of Nike actually), through my socks, through the base of my foot and up through the heel of my foot. It was so deeply embedded that my entire foot was literally fixed to the plank of wood!

How did I get it off? Well, this being the farming community and pain not being a human condition that was easily understood, the farmer placed his weight on one end of the wood and made me pull my foot upwards. It took a couple of goes and I have never felt pain like it before or since.

I hobbled the 10mins home having refused a lift from the farmer (in some kind of stupid act of bravery) with my foot trickling with blood, which in the 10mins began to dry off. You can guess that when I got home I had to remove a ruined shoe and socks, which had started to stick to my foot - yet more pain!

My advice, never jump onto planks of wood and never walk around in a house with wooden floorboards with no shoes on - ever!

    Ho hum!

 Do you live in a tree house or something?? How does that happen? What's "a huge piece"? Like a couple inches? A foot and a half?

My mum stepped on a sea urchin once on holiday and I spent the rest of the week pulling pieces out of infected pockets for the rest of the week.

A sea urchin results in 100% chance of infection. It's so bad to step on.

Just after I moved in on the Island of Crete I walked past a building that was being demolished. I stepped over some wires left carelessly scattered across the street and my foot landed right on a giant nail sticking up out of a piece of wood. As typical in Greece, no safety precautions had been taken to keep debris from spilling out from the demolition. Luckily nothing became of it, but I had a big hole in the sole of my foot for several weeks and the concern that I might have picked up some kind of disease.

Luckily all is well *twitches and slaps side of face*

Edit: I just read Paris' account. Same here! I lifted my foot and the whole damn pank lifted with it. This was partly due to the nail having gone through the rubber sole of my sneakers/trainers I think, but it was deep into the flesh of my foot too. That is my only real incident (I have never broken any bones or anything) but it was pretty scary in a foreign country like that.
