I can understand that, I remember seeing one that "rolled" everyone with a Rap song and the LAZAR face.

It was a hentai movie, I think, but in flash form, and just at the good part, the womans face turns into blackface and you hear "WHERE DA HOOD WHERE DA HOOD WHERE DA HOOD AT"

It was incredibly racist but I still laughed my ass off at it.

Look, having to listen to Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up is not funny in the slightest. how the hell is that a gotcha? Shit, I could go home tonight record that song to my answer phone and piss myself laughing if some one calls and has to hear it. The thing is though, I won't because it's just not funny.

If you ask me, people these days will laugh at any old shit because they're told too.

These last few weeks I've been watching the old Cannon & Ball shows (British members will know these) and surprisingly enjoying them. I never thought that they could be entertaining but they are a welcome break and refreshing from all the shock or dumb shit that people find entertaining these days.

I was in a college class where some guy had a linked rick roll youtube video in his huge end of semester project presentation.

How is it a gotcha? Because you don't expect it. It started when you would link to the video on youtube instead of what you are told it is. it's not expected. That's pretty much the definition of a gotha/bait and switch.

Yes. You can. Family guy's jokes are prewritten, if you listen to the commentary's on the DVDs they explain that. They just write dozens of dozens of jokes and they insert them into the episodes. If you notice that's how family guy's sense of humor works - they have random flash back type things that don't relate to the plot at all. The plot tends to be very bland with several random jokes thrown about. So the actual process of making the show takes about two weeks. Especially since alot of it is actually CGI (so is south park.) that's how the show's humor stays relevant to current events.

I am in the same +30 grouping and I concur, I fail to see anything funny in it. Just fail to see it. I tried, I can't laugh, it's just not funny! Must be getting old

I've seen it on the net a lot, I think its funnier when TV shows do it, though. Because usually when I'm watching TV the last thing on my mind is 4chan stuff. You know?

which is why Family Guy won't be relevant years from now in syndication. Stuff like the simpsons have humor that doesn't rely on current pop culture jokes like family guy does.

Please tell me it was a big black guy, because that would've been my roommate.

Edit: I just remembered you said you were on the Eastern side of the state, so I guess it couldn't have been him. Rickrolling in a college presentation seems like too great of an idea to be conceived by one person!

If this is what is called humour now adays. Then I would say Little Johnny jokes are funnier, heck even when my cat is on her period, and I have the runs is more funny. Than calling the rick rolling fun. And what a lame arse stupid motherfucking bullshit thing.

I'll be the first person to criticize Family Guy and I don't find it funny, I wasn't defending it I was merely explaining how they can have a show ready so fast.

In my experience I've had the same reactions to everyone I rick roll it's either "Why did you do this?" "What the fuck?" "HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWSOME" or "I think you sent the wrong video"

Meh, the first 5 times or so it was kinda funny, but since it became popular I got tired of it.

What really annoys me is getting rickroll IMs from everybody since it leaked into the mainstream, because back when it was still obscure nobody would laugh at it, and now, in one of the biggest examples of sheep mentality ever, everybody does.

the first time I saw it, someone was posting a chain of images in 4chan and someone "rick rolled" it with a random post of Rick Astley. That's how it started; it evovled from the "Duck Roll". then somone posted a animated gif in another thread asking for the source, someone posted a youtube video saying it's from that video and I went there and got Rick Astley.

The fact that it's a cheesy song has nothing to do with the original intent. It was just something random to trick people with. And any sort of bait and switch to me is funny. Granted, it get's old when you get bombarded with it.

It's not as funny anymore, it used to be just to see the reactions people would get from it.

Though you have to admit; if you were at a club or a concert and out of no where it started playing - you'd find it humorous.

Best gotcha I've seen was the guy (European of some sort, I can't remember) giving a power point presentation, when his screen saver kicked in. It happened to be a girl at a topless car washing smearing her huge cans on the windshield. Yeah, it was a self-gotcha, but shit like that is umpteen times funnier.

If you are conducting a poll, you'll be glad to know that at least one person doesn't - me! Even when it is explained why it might be funny, it still isn't, plus I tend to find that the longer it goes on the more it becomes just irritating and when things like that happen you tend to just smirk. A smirk is not a smile, it's just a resigned 'here we go again'.

The only funny rick-rolling is the one that takes over Firefox/IE and doesn't allow the rollee to close it the browser. It's not Rick that makes it funny, obviously. I'd much rather see that done with Lemon Party.

exactally, like i said. It's not the actual song or video, it's the trick involved.

This is the first I ever heard of this, it's really not funny. I see what people are trying to do but it's just a Rick Astly music video, whats the point? People who have been the victim of it probly had no re-action whatsoever.

By the way, Rick Astly was born in Newton-le-Willows which is the village next door to mine, I use the train station there. little fact of the day.
