I'm sure you've all enjoyed that moment when you beat your favorite 16 bit game and the credits start to roll. You then see things like Music by Poppy, or level design by Mr. X, or Game Plan by Nero. So why did developers back in the day use these handles or nicknames and not just put their own name? I guess for the cool factor. But how does that look on a resume? Of course nowadays the nicknames are pretty rare as game budgets are huge and people want their names known or to have rock star like status amongst the game fans.
To avoid getting head hunted by other companies. For realz. My list has a few aliases sorted out. It's an ambitious project, and I got a few hundred entries I think, but it'll likely not expand unless someone takes it up. It's only a few in the big picture. A lot of that 'data' is simply going to be lost. Would be nice if MAME had a decoded staff roll for each game.
