Not for long it seems... http://debugmo.de/?p=61 http://wiibrew.org/index.php?title=IOS37 Nintendo verified a hash with a NULL-terminating strcmp()... ... ... .. . . speechless o_0 CF
If you mean this recent version that can support Wiiware or whatever, Then yes it still works. EDIT: just looked at the link, wasn't that just some stupid April fools thing? Nintendo don't really care either way if you use a Freeloader or not, They are still getting the money either way.
Nintendo Japan might not care too much, but each region will and every third party that licenses games to release in other regions definately cares.
Essentially, it'll be OK until the System Menu starts running specifically on the new firmware. Currently, it's running on an older firmware revision which doesn't have the updated security checks.
I wouldn't buy one... It will definitely be patched soon. I just bought a Japanese Wii instead. It's even about 100€ less than a German Wii. :dance:
Its very much a cat-and-mouse game right now for this sort of software. I'd hold off unless you're dying to play imports, in which case you might get a few weeks of use before the next patch is rolled out that gives you a dandy little coaster. It'll be interesting to see how this levels out. There are only so many things Nintendo can patch/improve... all the while the homebrew/mod community for Wii continues to grow almost exponentially. Hold your breath.
