I am very disappointed with Nintendo and the Wii U. I think that them finally catching up is going to cause competitors like Sony and Microsoft to also release a new console. I personally think that the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are fully capable of continuing this generation, just look at Killzone 2! The game takes full advantage of the PS3s Cell Broadband Engine. The only advantage I can see of a new generation is that systems will finally use high capacity discs. Please share you opinions. ~ SEGA
Killzone 2 was only HDR and a ton of effects. The next generation will be : particles, particiles and particiles. That's all.
Geez, your right. Maybe I should make a "Playstation" account I think the next generation is going to be good. 600p gaming scaled to 720p is sub-par now, and with the current rumours on processors/GPUs I think the next gen will be killer (at least for the next consecutive 4 years or so). I'm looking forward to it for the most part. I'm afraid of the death of the second hand market, because that's one of my biggest areas for saving cash on VG stuff. I haven't bought anything from a store in years, it just doesn't make sense to me anymore. All my computers, systems, phones, furniture, games, etc is all second hand (or new off Craigslist)
I completely agree I hope to see native 1080p resolution games, I also fear that the next line up of consoles will require a constant internet connection and be DLC, causing a game distribution monopoly. I also fear that home-brew and modding will be completely non existent in the future. The ability do download my games for free makes me not feel so bad dropping the Benjamins. I do still buy the games I love but if they are the only one who sells the game, and sell them extremely expensive then that sucks. But I can't Wait to discover the new hardware that is in store!
From a technical curiosity view, I'd be interested to see a console that cannot boot without internet connection. Store key firmware pieces and all that server-side.
What I ment was all the games would be stored on the "Cloud" rendering the console useless if not connected to the internet.
I can't see games stored in cloud- then everyone would need insanely good internet speeds to play anything well- and that would cut off a huge chunk of profit because of users complaining the systems lags. However, I can see some sort of a boot key being stored in a server- however crappy that might be for almost everyone, it's something feasible for companies to do, and it wouldn't cause too much of an uproar for the average user. Personally, I'd hate anything that forces you to connect to the internet all the time. Especially if I'm just playing a game that's single player- What happens if my internet goes down for a couple days? I can't do anything? I'm seriously nervous about the next gen being extremely restricting to users. The Vita seems to already have portions of that- a couple of my games force turns off internet connectivity while the game is running. It's not huge, but it's an example of what they could do.
Yeah it's different. What I said is worse for user freedom. Instead of merely games, the console itself would not start up correct.
I personally think the advent of 3D tv's represents a huge untapped potential for games. I'm hoping the next generation of consoles will allow developers to target it, especially seeing as it really requires very little effort to support.
Yes, with 3D you can get a better grasp of distances and sizes, but it still won't really make a difference for the best selling games if we continue on the same trend we have now (FPS being the best sellers) For more cinematic games though, it would be a really cool touch. I can feel it would be cool to have it in games like Gravity Rush for Vita, or similar genres of games. let's just hope they don't take it to far and have cheesy 3D effects.
in a way this will all be a good thing, as many folks will reject those consoles which in term will bring us one step closer to a market crash we so desperately need
So basically, the next generation will be awesome for the at least the next generation? Just like every console that has come before it has been "killer" until toward the end of its generation. Isnt that stating the obvious?
Yeah, but everyone says it before the next gen comes out. So yes, stating the obvious, but I'm also stating the inevitable.
=/ I must admit, despite the fact that I think my xbox is doing just fine - I am looking forward to new consoles. Just because the xbox has been out like 7 years now and I like new toys.
Whenever next-gen consoles are announced, it makes me dig a lot deeper into the current gen's game library. I'm also more impressed by seeing what old hardware can truly do if optimized the right way than what new hardware impresses people with right after launch. There's still several titles that I haven't played at all between Wii, 360, and PS3. Between the three of them, I think they still have a lot of life left in them (well, not so much Wii, but the right people can always impress).
You haven't seen everything the WiiU can do. Developers don't still have access to Final Development kits. And seriously lol, people always cry about how they dont' care about graphics. But then when early development builds of Wii U games look on par with 360 games they cry foul! Fuckin hypocrites. Next Generation for MS and sony has to be a giant leap and #1 thing on my list is GOOD AA SUPPORT(and 1080p Native;minus downsampling; or bust). Having Good AA makes current console games ported to PC look leaps and bounds better than they do on consoles just because of that. Console Binary Domain: PC Binary Domain(which has better quality assets alone) Downsampled to 720p with FXAA by a factor of 4.5X the resolution of 720p OG Pc resolution before downsampling http://i.minus.com/ie1SKk6CU6SF0.png *(Downsampling is the process of your GPU Downscaling a higher resolution than your monitor supports to your monitor's Native resolution and applying a box filter to it. Read:OGSSAA http://naturalviolence.webs.com/ogssaa.htm)* If they truly want the next console generation to last 10 years. They better put their money where their mouths are, and not gimp the system with weak RAM, and a weak GPU like the PS3. They need revolutionarily effecient hardware that surpasses even top of the line PC GPU's almost.(Minus the GTX690)
I still think the true next gen is a few years away. allowing for GPUs to go down in price before making anything affordable to the average consumer.
