Heh, Xbox had a much better line-up than 360... # Jet Set Radio Future # Genma Onimusha # SILENT HILL 2 # Double-S.T.E.A.L # Air Force Delta 2 # Hyper Sports 2002 Winter ESPN # Winter X Games Snowboarding 2002 # Nobunaga’s Ambition: Chronicles of Chaos # Nezmix†# Project Gotham Racing· # Dead or Alive 3 JSRF, DOA3 and Genma Onimusha were pretty big titles, but were they bigger than DOA4 now?
Indeed... Well there have been a couple of small success stories in Japan - such as GTA and other games that have sold a respectable amount of games. Fable didn't do too badly if I recall correctly. But you are quite correct. However if we reverse this, just think how many games from Japan are popular in America. As I can see it, if American buyer tastes like Japanese products, then games made for an american audience may have some crossover in these tastes, seeing as they are still games, whether Japanese or not. I do hope that America can find a pallatable way of bringing these games to Japan, if you look at American movie posters they are redone for the japanese market, just like Japanese game covers are changed for the americans. I think American games need to greatly localised to the Japanese market, just as Japanese games are for the west. It needs much more effort, but it is the only way the west will crack japan. I do believe that most western companies have been very lazy in changing games for Japan, something I don't see changing for a good while. Well I quick glance around my room here reveals that I do not own a single western made game (all ntsc-jp as well), so I'm probably not in a good position to judge this one. I can't really compare western and Japanese games if I don't own a single western game! (I do own a couple of xboxes though, thats as close as I get) Also worth taking into account is the fact that 80 percent-ish of Japanese games do not make it to the US, as they are not appropriate for the market - US producers need to be more selective in which games to bring to the Japanese markets, before complaining that they fail.
VGM, you're an ignorant gamer. Plain and simple. --edit-- To clarify more. More Japanese games have been world wide sucess then USA games. I know you more mean Western games (since you have to include european developed games) and not just USA developed games. Alot more inovative software has come out of japan vs any other place. I play games from anywhere in the world because I want to see what others are trying to make but as a whole, more inovative things come out of japan & yet more beefy engines come out of USA & Europe (but that does not always mean better games).
