So, after gawking at the 3007WFP for a while, I've noticed that to get full resolution, a Dual DVI video card is required. The only one I've been able to find solid specs on is the Nvidia Quadro series. Seems the cheapest one is in the $1000 range. Am I correct? Considering I have 2 PCs, that just won't work. Guess I'll have to wait a few years.
I would get that screen, but it needs a dual head video card, which means pci express, which my pc doesn't have, I 'm not spending $1500 for a new pc for that screen, so my 23 wide inch sony will have to do for now. Remember, just beacuse a card is dual dvi doesn't mean it will work.
It's a $2,500 monitor... i'm not exactly surprised it needs a $250 mobo and a $1,000 video card. I'm not sure of any dual head VGA cards that'll do 2560x1600 combined off of both outputs. A DVI -> VGA converter may be out of the question. If you're actually serious about buying this, i'd look at Matrox's line of cards for something that'll handle it.
The spec page points out NVidia & ATI (like there's anything else?) so I'm assuming the high end Quadro's would work. Seems a bit rich for my blood. The 23" dells are down to $800, so I'll probably live w/ one of those. Sorry to hear you got the Sony one. I have an office full of them, and am very displeased with their durability (of all Sony monitors for th matter though).
A Dual-Link video card is required. 7800gtx I know for a fact is DL and the x1600 xt appears to be as well. If you plan on gaming with it you best have SLI or crossfire. At 2560x1600 you won't be able to play much beyond UT or Q3. Personally I love my Dell 2405FP. Got it about two weeks ago and it is uber.
Quadro or not, you need dual link. Just because parhelia has 4x dvi doesn't mean it'll work either. Same for Quadro.
I thought the parhelia had DL emulation? eh... maybe not, i don't remember. Either way, i wouldn't expect to do a whole lot of gaming at 2560x1600. Most engines would just laugh at you
I misread your post, Assembler. (dual dvi vs. dual link). The high-end (3400 and up) Quadros have Dual Link... and start in the $1000 range. I don't play much computer games though, so no big deal. It would be nice to have Illustrator, Photoshop, and Firefox all open in the same place w/ out having to flip back and forth.
gotta agree with assembler 23" lcd is the screen to go with now kinda scary that dual dvi link is so rare
If I didnt need to save for something right now, that badboy would be on my desk I wonder if it would work with DL dual sli.
I have the 20" widescreen dell. Its great but its already a bitch to play games on. At 1680x1050 Oblivion gets 25-30fps inside towns and about 13-20 sometimes abit more sometimes abit less on outside areas/on the horse. Any higher resolution and i wouldnt be able to play the game.
What's your video card? The only PC gaming I'll be doing anytime soon is Phantasy Star Universe. I don't mind running it in whatever mode. The main scary thing about that big ass monitor is that I have a linux box as well that I use. I guess I could always use it as a terminal server and do all my Linux crap through the Putty suite. Still a bit too much though.
If you're having problems with Dual link DVI, you could always go for the 24". Pretty much identical featurewise, but as it is smaller (1920x1200 native res) only requires single link DVI. Plus, you could buy two of them with change for the price of the 30".
I have a GeForce 7800GT and it has Dual-DVI. I know a few chaps with the 24" Dell and they seem to love it, but IMO Samsung SM9730BF with 4ms response time is much better, can't stand widescreen
Ive been reading that people got a Verto GeForce 6600GT with dual dvi to run the apple 30". So this should also work for this 30" as they have the same resolution.
