Hi, folks. I've spent some time going back to the original, ancient spinach-green Game Boy games for a bit of fun, and I felt like sharing my discoveries with everyone else. So, I've written up a page with 10 short reviews of Game Boy games that deserve a second look. Please check them out: http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/gbgems.html
HeianKyo Alien sounds terribly like a copy of Boomers Adventure in Asmik World, or it might be the other way around, but Boomers... is one of my favourite GB games.
No way. Did you see the date? 1979. Heiankyo Alien is one of the original maze (+ dig-your-enemies-into-a-hole) games.
Heiankyo alien was an intresting game back in 1979, although it's too hard for it's own good at times. Nice list, although I am sad to say I only have 2 games on that list. The forementioned game and Chalvo 55 (I had a double take too when I saw the date....). One game that I love and if I only had one game to play on the GB then it would have to be Pit Man, a weird game where you have to smash blocks of earth and punch ghosts and badies, it is a excellent thinking puzzle game too. Must go out this week and find Peetan. The only thing I dislike about those lists is that most of the time, the people that rave about those games have probably never even seen the box of the game, let alone own it.
Wow, thanks for this! I can't say I'd heard of them, and Heiankyo Alien sounds like my kinda game! Ahh, countless hours spent playing such games as Repton, Boulder Dash, Pippo, Hungry Horace...... hehe!
Yes, it's a good game. Called "Catrap" in the west, I played it until the more frustrating levels... then gave up, of course. That may be true, but I fail to see how not owning the game/box makes these lists good or bad... Can you explain?
[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]Heiankyo Alien was amongst the many excellent secret gems for the GB that used to be on quite a lot of the multi carts that snuck around the game trading shops where I live. There is a GB game I remember very well that I think it's sad haven't been brought back, and that is Bubble Ghost, I would've loved to see some sort of DS port + remake of it (evt. let remake version allow for "microphone blowing) Another GB game I used to love was Volley Fire, playing it now though, I wonder how on earth I could stand playing it. It goes too slow and the total randomness of the enemy A.I. makes it a pain in the ass. I often actually end up under-appreciating games that I didn't pay for. (Maybe some innner voice making me feel bad about it if it's a good game or something, so then I find myself hitting the market looking for a copy so I can enjoy it with a clean conscience) Trip World looks like a really nice game. I like SunSoft, I still like the old GB. Thanks for bringing attention to some stuff that probably didn't get the attention it deserves.
Yes, Bubble Ghost (on the GB and Amiga) is one of my favourites, but I thought it wasn't obscure enough to go on my page. The music is also great, being one of the few 8-bit soundtracks from Hitoshi Sakimoto, who would go on to make some great Mega Drive and next-gen soundtracks (Ogre Battle, Soukyugurentai, etc...)
Interesting list. Did you know that Chalvo 55 is the follow-up of the cancelled Virtual Boy title: Bound High? Here is a Chalvo sprite sheet I made, if you want to do some fun things with it: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/49109925/ Here is the Wikipedia article about Chalvo 55. I didn't create it, but if you want to add more info to it, you are welcome to do so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chalvo_55 I also enjoy Balloon Kid/Hello Kitty World/Balloon Fight GB. I believe Alice should enter SSBB. "Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru" anyone?
I own 4 copies of Faceball 2000, as well as this site: http://fb2k.retro-spect.ca/ Also, Great Greed should have made that list. One of the best RPGs I played for the platform. Awesome list though, opened my eyes to a bunch of games I didn't know existed
Hi i'm not sure If i should post this here. But I've got this giant double sized pirate Game Boy cart (Super 150-in-1 1993; with Chinese characters: I'll translate soon) I bought it at a 2nd hand store, and it unfortunately did not come with any of its original packaging/box. Games inside the cart (those marked with a * means title screen was in Japanese, so the title is taken off the often incorrect main menu screen) also, about the Adv. Island repeats: this looks like a save game hack, each repeat is different from the other in terms of game progress. 01. Simpsons Bart v. The Juggernauts 02. NBA 2 All Star Challenge 03. Spider Man 2 04. Double Dragon 3 05. WWF Superstars 2 06. Terminator 2 07. The Flash 08. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 09. Adventure Island II 10. After Burst 11. Amazing Tater 12. So there are actually 76 (!) unique games in this cart ! I think they were able to fit these in since they're mostly simple puzzle-like games. There's a nice mix of Japanese and US titles. Some rare ones here, like "Master Karateka" a game made by Jordan Mechner (who also created "Prince of Persia").
Wow, it looks like that card came out of someones ass! If your in China, consider getting a "Cleaner" card to replace that one They actually sell them quite often, and with diffrent games too. Some require bank switching via a switch, or dipswitchs, and some don't. Though, most don't have manuals. Except some Chinese sheet that simply tells you (Translated): "This is a sophisticated apparatus! Do not touch the edge..." etc " or "Manufacture 100% Warrenty guarentee!" which actually means you get no warrenty of any kind, except the paper that re-assures you that you have free warrenty for 10 years.
