For those who haven't heard the news, it was announced a few minutes ago that he died.

They are now clearing out his apartment - wow, they don't waste much time!! :\

I saw on the news a few hours ago that he was seriously ill never knew he had died though. I wonder if they have anyone to take his place? How old was he? Must have been well in to his late 80's. Let's hope the terrorists arse holes of the world don't use this as an excuse.

I saw the pope once when I was a child. He came to England and Visited Liverpool. I remember the turn out to see him was amazing. The Pope even visited the protestant cathedral as well as the catholic one.

It's Sad, but he had been suffering for a long time so perhaps its better that hes now at peace

  9. He'd been not doing well for the past couple of weeks, going to a hospital for several weeks back in February, having to have an emergency tracheotomy because of breathing complications, and this final battle with several bad infections that proved too much for the pontiff.

Pope John Paul II (born Karol Wojtyla) left behind an amazing legacy that I'm not sure many people were aware of - he was influential in the downfall of Communism in Eastern Europe/Western Asia at the end of the 1980's, and he travelled hundreds of thousands of miles during his papacy in the name of peace and unity - not just for church interests, like the healing of the rift between Christianity and Judaism, but for things like peace in the Middle East or human rights in China. The things he accomplished in his time as Pope are absolutely stunning, and he should be an inspiration to Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

Now we just have to wait and see if his successor can live up to the legacy John Paul II left behind.

    Rest in peace, Holy Father.
