Last night I went to watch something mistakenly put my PS4 into rest mode turned it back on closed the app and..PS4 turns off. I panic as a game I just bought was inside. I unplug it take the game out rebuild database it's fine.

Today I beat MKX close it go in my browser, after a few minutes it shuts down again and won't turn on. Finally does, I remove the MK XL disc. Rebuild the database again, then unplugged it from the extension cord and. Into a power strip incase it's a power issue.

It could be the PS4 seems to be a common problem. It could be a power issue with my room as my mini fridge has been messing with my TV.

    Any ideas?

I dunno about power, since it sounds like the ps4 wasn't under load when it happened? Unless it has something to do with something else on the circuit kicking in, but still, you'd think a breaker would blow before the ps4 shutting down.

Yeah it was running as it normally does. What made me wonder if it was power was if I'm watching TV if my fridge turns on and off my TV blinks then shows time/resolution that pops up when you switch inputs. If it's not that then it's something with my PS4. It runs hot but no worse than the Roku downstairs. I think PS4 run warm anyway. I left it in rest mode all night last night with no issues.

To play it safe, I'm getting a new surge protector even though that isn't the problem as it was plugged into the wall when it happened.

surge protector wont help if you have power stability issues.

You need a CVT (constant voltage transformer). surge protectors only help with a surge, not a dip - which is what sounds like is happening.

Ok I have the PS4 in my power switch, it's running quieter now I ran the most resource intensive thing I had, the FFXV demo at no point did it start revving up like a jet engine. Seem to be running cooler. I guess I'll wait and see if it happens again, it's in rest mode now.

Consulted with my dad on the voltage thing he says it's a good idea, he an engineer so he'd know.

So I contacted Sony this morning to try and figure out if it was my console or the wall socket. I got a "Your system needs to be serviced" response. Despite telling them the system has been running better since I switched sockets. So no real insight into what might have caused the problem.

Say what you will about Microsoft but I never had this much trouble figuring out what was wrong with my XBOXes when I used to call them.

If your TV blinks and shows res info (essentially almost turning off then on) when the fridge kicks in, sounds like the socket. Still surprised your breaker isn't blowing when this happens, as that is supposed to be the failsafe for too much draw.

The weird thing is it only blinks when I have it on my cable box, PS3 and PS4 nothing happens, which as of now are the only other things I have plugged in. I dread what could happen when I plug in my AC.

No issues with the PS4 today, but I used it minimally and only played maybe two hours of Senran kagura. It's been in rest mode all day with no issue.

Get a consumer UPS box and try that. Worst case you have to get the PS4 serviced and the UPS is worth having anyway.

I think Sony mails out coffins. I think I'm going to buy the extended service plan soon. I was going to hold off but it seems that this PS4 may shit the bed sooner rather than later. No issues with it since Tuesday but still.
