OH NOES! Even after almost five years from launch, 4 or 5 revisions and one redesign, the X360 keeps craping itself. Yeah, even though you'll be paying as much as you would 5 years ago for a system thats now reaching obsolescence, you're still getting the same shit in the fan situation early adopters had, except you're not getting the "ultimate game experience" now. BUT AT LEAST the douches at MS were considerate enough to make the console shut down before completely burning itself.........and your house.
EDIT: Aww, you removed the big ranty bit about red rings of death and how the 360 sucks. YOU WIN AGAIN, INTERNET! What are you talking about? The Xbox 360 has ALWAYS had overheat protection! Essentially, this is the equivalent of sections 1 and 3 on the old console flashing red. As far as I was aware, the red ring issue is usually caused by the rapid heating and cooling of the board and solder over and over again as it gets switched on and off. The console doesn't overheat in that situation - more that the connections on the processors get broken, causing the failure.
No. Sarcasm would be: 'Wow! This new Xbox is really awesome. I mean look at the great games I'm playing: --- Instead, you are shocked when you turn out you got something wrong, changed your post, and feigned that 'oh ha, ha it's all a joke' rather than admitting that you made a mistake. You were trying the archaic 'OMG! MS SUXX!' routine whilst copy-pasting stuff from another website (with no source mentioned, I might add), in order to start a fight. Please, leave your fanboy rants at the login screen - I see enough trash talk about all the consoles on other gaming sites without the need to see more of this rubbish here.
I hope I am not the only one to thought of HAL from 2001: A space odyssey? 'I'm sorry Dave I can't let you play that game'
This has gone far, far beyond rediculous now. I was actually looking forward to getting a 360 S & Kinect for the kids (and me) to replace the Wii in the living room, but this really has me worried now. I mean seriously, Shadowlayer, do you live in an active volcano or on the Sun? You have loads of ventilation around that machine and it's still overheated! I don't think it would be possible to put anymore holes in that sodding case if you tried. I will wait to see how many problems in general are reported with the new console between now and Xmas.
Your concept of sarcasm is being obvious to even the most dumb reader that "OMG I'm maekin a joke!!1". So yeah sorry for not using sarcasm brackets... I had a signature like that before, it was "I'm afraid I can't let you play that Dave" with the RROD on top of HAL's eye. It's from some guy at the GAF, and from the pic it has enough ventilation.
You know, I think some of you guys with RROD problems don't look after your consoles. My Elite gets used EVERY night since buying it new last November and have I had any problems? No, not one. It's kept upright with lots of space around it and has it's vents vacumed every weekend along with my PC's vents. I hate dust build up you see. In fact here it is right now as I type this. Yakumo
That's because you've got an Elite, which is supposedly way less red ring prone. BTW, that's a nice Hello Kitty trash can
Yakumo, That's because the power of hello kitty protects your 360 from MS ninjas out to break systems in the middle of the night so people have to buy new ones. =)
That was my feeling too, that it happened to people who didn't look after their consoles. Then mine died. Admittedly, it was a Xenon with a history of repair. The game I was playing froze up not long before it happened and, thinking to myself that it was overheating, felt the case and the airflow coming out. It was hardly warm. Plenty of airflow around it, nothing on top or behind it. It just died. I had it for about 2 years before it died, and it did get a lot of use. To be honest, I would automatically assume this picture is a set-up. Someone covering up the vents on the console or wrapping it in a blanket just to see what happened and whether they could make it red-ring.
Is it just me or does the dust on the right of the pic look messed up...like the console was sitting there standing up with the vent going straight into a wall...or something else was sitting there
The original thread on NeoGAF pretty much calls that out. That the guy made it overheat to see what would happen. -hl718
It looks like its in one of those small entertainment cabinets that have a glass/plastic door, and if you look at the back there is a backboard with a hole in to let the wires out. It also looks like the shelf has only just been 'dusted' and was perhaps even dustier before the pic was taken? Given these conditions, and the fact its the middle of summer, I wouldnt be at all surprised if it had overheated inside a small closed dusty box.
Anecdotal, mate. I'm still on my first 360 (been three or four years now) but I'm under no illusion - the fucker's going to die someday, as it's one from the earlier batches.
The "new" 360 has another problem. That glossy casing is a dust magnet. No mather what you do, it will always have dust. People who own the original fat PS3 know what i'm talking about. I really hope that someday gaming consoles become more reliable. I mean, how it can be so hard to design a decent cooling system and a reliable and decent disc drive / lens? Of course, companies have to lower production costs for the final price to be acceptable, but parts like the disc drive, the cpu and gpu are the most important things on the box.
You can blame all the tight bastards who what everything for nothing. It's like with the new Kinect or what ever it's called. Everyone is saying "150USD!, fuck that. I'd buy it if it was cheaper ". 100% that te same people would be bitching if it was 100 USD. The bottom line is, if you want it you will find the money. Simple as that! It may take longer than expected to find the cash but you could find it. Yakumo
Same here, mine still works but once I jtaged it I got the fans running on 12 volts now.I never had a freeze or anything but I know it will die one day.
