Yeah , no anime can measure up the social commentary of South Park. Or the Complexitiy of a Mature show like Archer. No Anime can ever meet the standards of great animation like Phinas and Ferb
Unfortunately you aren't in a position to say such a thing since you've probably only seen the stuff released in the west or hand picked fan subs. There were some very funny anime in the mid 80's and 90's. That never got a western release or fan sub (that I know of) True, they aren't as long running as The Simpsons (which I also love) but still just as good as The Simpsons was in it's heyday or better.
I just hope the Simpsons producers don't know Saze-san exists...then the Simpsons will never end. The US Simpsons Box sets have a few multi lingual episodes one of which has the Japanese voice overs. I do think older anime is better than the crap Japan is churning out now I swear most anime produced now is in hopes the Weeaboos in the west embrace it and thus... it's cleche'd generic garbage. Which reminds me I still need to get into Bubblegum Crisis.
I think the voice for Homer in Japanese was pretty good. Bubblegum Crisis is a little dated now but still great. Tell me about it. My son watches anime on TV of course however the quality of the animation is a joke. Most of it is stills that pan across the screen or animation frames reused so much (like He-Man) that it's painfully obvious. The stories are a fucking joke as well. Today’s TV anime are nothing but shitty adds for shitty card games or some crap. You could say that the original Transformers was just a big add but at least that had better animation (still poor though), a good enough story and promoted a kick arse line of toys. I've sat down and watched shit like Azuma Eleven, Pokemon whatever generation it is now, Tamagotchi, some thing which is basically pokemon but with mechs in CG and other shit. All of these shows are VERY VERY Poor in every area from animation quality to story. I also watch an awful lot of Spongebob with my son (Every day) yet that is animated pretty nicely with something moving in every scene. Sure, the stories are sometimes odd but never the less, it's entertaining and you never really know what the characters will say or do unlike today's Japanese TV animation.
I like cheese? Seriously now, I don't care for anything remotely connected to anime. Hell, I don't even like watching the more popular US shows like Family Guy or The Simpsons anymore. If I watch a show now, well I needn't say more since everyone knows of my brony state now...
Is Phineas and Ferb on TV in Japan? as far as Cartoons go I don't think anything can touch it. It's well Written, still follows a formula but never gets old, Kids can enjoy it, but so can adults. I LOVE that show. On the Adult end, Archer is Fucking Hilarious. My favorite clip
I couldn't get into BGC. I tried watching it earlier this year and it was ok. I feel it's really over rated.
I've never been into anime so probably not, but my post wasn't exactly serious anyway. That said, I find it hard to believe that there's any anime (or, honestly pretty much anything else) that's as good as classic Simpsons, because that was just comic genius.
Comparing anime and western animation are like comparing apples and oranges. Anime is usually abstract and highly unreal. Western animation usually deals with more realistic situations. Anime typically requires you to watch every episode to know what's going on, while western animation can typically be watched from any given point. I can't hate on either of them because I grew up in the 90s when both had a lot of airtime, classic or modern in both respects. Sometimes anime truly doesn't make any sense to me, but I figure that since the culture is so wildly different (and honestly far more bizarre.. it has it's ups and downs), a lot of it gets lost in translation. Unfortunately, both sides have their disgraces, too. The west usually shows it from lackluster animation and poor writing (like Sit Down, Shut Up and Bob's Burgers), while anime... Well, I'm sure you know where I'm going with that.
Haha, pictures make for 1000s of words. Animation itself is a highly abstract art form. It's sole purpose is to encourage a lack of reality. I guess I shouldn't have said "realistic situations", but something along the lines of "more easily understandable situations" that appeal to a wider base of people (like visual gags). In terms of plot, western animation is usually more simple (though some mature shows have proven this wrong) when anime is out in space in comparison. Of course, this is all a general perspective on the matter. You could compare Aeon Flux and Shin-Chan, or Yogi Bear and FLCL. They're all totally different and unique from each other, but sometimes they inspire each other too.
