Before you go all "woohoo" I stumbled across this on betarchive this night : http://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2250&p=406210&hilit=sims+beta#p406210 A user named "PivotGuy246" links to a "Sims 2 Sampler beta". (674 mb in size) And browsing the parent directories I found "TheSims2Introduction.zip". No idea if I stumbled across something interesting or not...you tell me http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/asiapacific/demos/TheSims2Sampler.zip http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/demos/Sims2/TheSims2Introduction.zip No need to install, just unpack compressed.zip and start TS2Sampler.exe. It then says "this demo is for promotional purposes only" : Still exploring the files and executables with a hex editor. /pub/misc/Sims2 offers even more files...which Im not familar with...could be junk.... So does : /pub/misc/NordicSims If already known, please forgive me. (and tell me!) Hope this is of any use p.s. Also browsing the ftp via the waybackmachine back to 2003 is quite interesting
Unfortunately it's not. I don't have any hopes that the pre-fire beta will find it's way online any time soon, as I think it never made it's way outside of Maxis. I mostly wish a beta would leak from E3 of 2004, the one with the Waterside neighborhood (and the other 3 main 'hoods in an earlier state) and the unused hairs.
Yeah. I am rather curious on if anybody even owns ANY pre-release of Sims 2. the game has a rather interesting development story, especially considering how Maxis cut so many different hairstyles and features. A few of my favorite cut things are the Power and Craft aspirations (Power can actually be used, but it's a bit buggy and is apparently a combination of Popularity and Fortune) whereas Craft got cut pretty much entirely and is inaccessible. Then there's the other, more realistic elements they cut, such as hospital births, fashion shows, cars (re-introduced in Nightlife) military school, breakfast in bed and washing clothes. The more gimmicky features are the boss, engagement, and grandchild scenarios which I now see why they cut them, as the last two make the game more restrictive, whereas the boss scenario is nearly the same as the headmaster scenario, gameplay wise and it was best off to be gone and not be in the way.
It looked truly different and very interesting. rumor has it, beta-archive once had a copy.... http://www.modthesims.info/d/printthread.php?t=542482&page=4&pp=25
I think the guy who had told me all it was just saying it to get attention. Given his past, it's hard to believe otherwise. He's known to troll random game communities and say he owns / knows people who own betas of games and such. He never showed me proof of owning it. Won't bring his name up in this thread, but just know he's been here a few times, from the looks of it. The only ounce of truth he's ever brought up is the console version of Sims 2 was originally The Urbz 2, as I had confirmed it via the game files, so that was real. That, and he did mention a leak of the Sims 2 back in 2003, and I recall reading something about a leak in 2003, which showed an image of the old UI that Sims 2 had, so... It's hard to tell, but the story reeks of bull, with him saying the laptop magically crashed and he lost it, yet just recently he said "I'm planning on releasing it" to me.
Did this disc show up as real DVD or CD somehwere ? I cannot find any "The SIMS" promo cds or review discs on eBay for example. Nothing.
What in the world are you talking about? I never mentioned a "disc". The only thing you'll find is a Sims 2 Sneak Preview disc, which was bundled with The Sims Makin' Magic. It's nothing too exciting. Mostly just promo images which can be found on various sites. I really wish you'd quit mis-reading my posts.
