I recently read that the console port of The Sims was being developed for the Playstation 1 but cancelled. Does anyone have any info on this? The only thing i found was this on archive.com:
Is this for real? Where did you read this information? Can you give link or scan? This cover picture is from real EA / Maxis web page? Wow this is mind blowing to me :confused-new: So idea and developing of this port started around 2000. or 2001.?
This: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Cancelled_PlayStation_games This: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Cancelled_Nintendo_64_games Then i found the image randomly browsing in wayback machine.
Don't recall ever seeing anything official regarding a PS1 port of The Sims, unlike other same era stuff like Black & White - where EA certainly didn't miss a single chance to promote its console presence.
It was bumped in development from PS1/64 to PS2,GC and Xbox. Technically they did not miss an opportunity. I still would love to see this cancelled prototype of the console port. I can only imagine the graphics. lol
Again, if there's nothing but uncited wikipedia entries for this and no statements from someone who were actively involved in the project, then I really don't think this is correct. Wikipedia's not exactly the go-to place for accurate information on certain topics concerning the games industry and technical yahoo (such as how a billion games are falsely claimed to be running on various versions of the Unreal Engine, thanks to idiots thinking a game clearly must run on the Unreal Engine because they were able to run the game in an emulator, accompanied by a DirectX geometry ripper, and rip the 3D models from the games and then dump them into 3DS Max and export to the Unreal 3 Editor.)
i know it's been like 2 years since this topic was made but i didnt want to make a new one. so this is something really interesting to me, what do you guys think the game would have been like? would it have been a direct pc to ps port or similar to the ps2 game? also if anyone else has more info on this game that'd be cool.
That is moronic. It saves clutter. Anyways, I figured out this was a hoax by a member of ModTheSims. It wasn't ever real.
Maybe Sims was going to be released on PS1 and N64, but didn't. Maybe because sim games weren't really popular on consoles(Except Harvest Moon).
No, its because PS2, Xbox and Gamecube released so there was no point in developing two versions. There is some small and useful info about the sims console trilogy (1, bustin out, urbz) here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Urbz:_Sims_in_the_City#Development
ah well now we know, still woulda been cool if they made it, i bet if they did it would have been like the pc version like sim city and simtown or "sim city jr." the pc version of sims only had 3d characters, everything else was made of sprites
i would assume the N64 version would have cameos from various nintendo characters (what Maxis Nintendo game didn't have that) and would have N64DD support if it was released abroad. As for the PS1 version, it would have looked more true to the PC version and possibly would have autosave and the real time clock just like the N64DD version
IIRC ccrogers was a known troll. Don't take anything said with any semblance of seriousness or consideration.
