You read the title (I hope). Nintendo has announced that the smaller "New" 3DS is coming to North America. The only bundle announced was the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer bundle, which includes the console, an Animal Crossing-themed face plate, and the game for $219.99 USD. What do you guys think? Are you excited for this? Are you going get one or just wait for different bundles to come out?
While I prefer the XL model, I can see why they are going to release it here. There was a large demand for it. It is the only model that has removable face plates. There are a lot of people with small hands who would have a better grip on it. There were also people complaining that the XL couldn't fit in their pockets. From my use with the old 3DS family, I have noticed the 3D is better on an XL than the smaller 3DS. No idea if it's the same for the "new" models
I was hoping to get the smaller one (especially if they bring the plates over) The XL is too big to fit comfortably in pockets and stuff.
If the smaller XL is exactly the same physically on the outside as Japanese counterpart, all faceplates will work. Faceplates are region-free, DRM-free, and mostly hassle-free. You only need to deal with long shipping and customs taxes.
Smaller XL? What? There's the New 3DS XL and New 3DS. Some prefer the smaller model since they have smaller hands.
I'm kinda mellow about the 3DS sizes. My hands are about medium size. I like the normal 3DS due to the better screen, and that I'm not hitting the volume slider every damn time. The 3DS XL is more comfortable though. But I'm currently gaming on my Vita, so I have a while until I consider going back to my 3ds backlog.
Kind of stupid how they handled this. At the time they released the New 3DS XL, I would have agreed with this guy: However, that Majora's Mask New 3DS XL was just too shiny of an object, and I (barely) managed to pre-order one from Gamestop. Now, my New 3DS XL travels with me everywhere and fits perfectly fine in my pockets (have it with me right now as a matter of fact) and every time I mess with my wife's 3DS I cringe at how small it is. No way I could go back to a small one now (granted, I imagine I'm not the target audience, but the point is that the smaller model would have likely sold better had they just released it at the same time since people like me who would have (at that time) preferred the smaller model wouldn't have gotten spoiled by the XL).
I love my hacked MM LE New 3DS XL. Its already a rare unit but the fact that its completely on CFW makes it even more perfect. -doulomb
Seeing all the stupid decisions Nintendo has made in the recent past, I'm surprised that this is happening. A step in the right direction for Nintendo.
im excited for it, originally i was pissed off when it wasnt announced for u.s so i needed to upgrade my old 3ds so i chose to get the new 3ds rather then wait for the new standard model to come out after playing the game i have on it im honestly glad. the bigger screen is so much better when i hold my old 3ds and compare with the new xl it amazes me the difference actually makes the screen on the old 3ds is like how did i even enjoy playing on that....
I personally am happy for this news! I have smaller hands and I did find the XL variety to be heavy (at least from the model at Best Buy; I do not know, how does it hold up for you folk with wider, larger hands on a long term play?) Hey, how is the battery life on the "New 3DS" models anyhow? If the same as the earlier models, I guess I will have to research for battery upgrades....sigh. I use the Nyko you screw in for original 3DS; extends life to around span of DS Lite. Read Mugen was the top option at this point for New models, but price-point can be undesirable.
the game i play (resident evil the mercenaries 3d) i have no discomfort when playing long hours i compete for WR's on it and can say the battery life is really good better then the old 3ds i say it does little over a hour more then standard 3ds batteries. i never really maxed it out in one session but it last a very good time. i dont find the weight that bad or even the sticking it in my pocket bad at all unless your wearing skinny jeans would be maybe why it doesnt fit great lol.
I would import some Hello Kitty faceplates for that thing.. Just me though. I'm actually happy the smaller one is coming here, my O3DS XL is kinda larger to tote to and from the game store.
I disagree. I've got average/medium sized hands and find them much more comfortable. Lighter as well. Plus, the 3DS/DS screens are FAR too low resolution to have screens so big, the DPI is awful and is a deal breaker for me personally . I had a DSi XL for a few months , sold it. I've used my brother's New 3DS XL and I can't stand it. The motion quality isn't so great. Aside from slightly poorer 3D Tracking and the angular sharp edges to it, I am still in love with my original 3DS. Plus, interchangeable faceplates is nice! I don't care for the Animal Crossing designs and whatnot. But i'm super happy about getting the NORMAL sized 3DS.
i must say the face plates i want so bad but dont wanna downgrade the 3ds xl to normal size now.. also love the button colors they did for it i guess ill just be content with the xl i really want another RE game to come out for it.
