the title to this thread may end up being more interesting than the actual content. lol. but I digress.

I remember reading that there where different builds of this game, the first of which contained boss characters such as Godzilla, Rambo, and Batman - and the last of which had these altered.

the point of contention was that the very first Super Shinobi variant had the Godzilla boss with spikes on his back, but as of yet I haven't found anyone to have come across this.

    so what's the deal?
any other Megadrive game have multiple versions of it come out this way? kind of makes searching for a proto build almost redundant as they ended up releasing the work in progress material.
makes Shinobi all that much cooler in my eyes. which is really hard as Shinobi is already very cool.
(would be cool to find the build of Saturn Shinobi shown in different Saturn brochures, which never later materialized).

honestly, I don't know much about the different versions of Super Shinobi ~ Revenge Of Shinobi. though I have heard of different versions with differnet bosses.

all I can say is, I bought my U.S. Genesis version of Revenge Of Shinobi in June 1990 (thanks GrandPa!) many months after its original release in 1989. my version has the spiderman / batman boss and the blue godzilla boss.

how many variants of Super Shinobi ~ Revenge Of Shinobi are there?

I don't know how many variants there actually are, but I do remember the older versions used a Godzilla-like boss and spider-man (??) boss, without obtaining the licences from Toho films or Marvel comics. I guess Sega got sued...
So, they released another version with a dinosaur skeleton boss in place of Godzilla, and a "Licenced from Marvel Comics" screen to smooth out the problems over Spider-Man. I think.

I don't know anything about any Batman boss differences.

What I'd really like to know is why they replaced the awesome moon/buildings title screen of Shadow Dancer with the lame yellow one that we got stuck with.

There are so called 3 versions. The first two are the same apart from the very first is said to have Godzilla with spikes. The one I have has Godzilla, Spiderman, Batman and Rambo in it. The later 3rd release (all western versions) only contain Spiderman. Please note that all 3 Japanese versions also have the same product code making it impossible to tell from just looking at the box.

The only other jpmd (I don't know about euro/us) game I know of with 2 releases is J League Pro Striker. It was originally released as G-5518 but was recalled to fix bugs. It was then rereleased as G-5526 with the bugs fixed. (The instructions are still numbered 5518 but the insert and cart sticker are changed).

    Probably loads more.

No mention of Rambo in that wiki though. To be honest I think that the version with spikes on the Godzila was a beta version. I've yet to hear or see a real cart version like that. Theres also a Japanese site that shows pictures of the different version of the game. I think it was someone here who actually posted the link a few month back.
