Nice, clean job. It's probably quite frustrating to put this thing together. The Nerd would approve.
Oh and do you enjoy Monster Madness ?

The NES doesn't have stereo sound. The mod that people do claiming it adds stereo sound, sounds like shit. Don't do it. I could understand if you want to do something to have the sound output duplicated so you can plug in your Red and White audio cables so you aren't just hearing the game from one speaker. But the "stereo" mod is completely silly.

I really appreciate that. This is definitely a more difficult and time consuming project. Monster Madness? I'm not sure I'm familiar with it.

Yeah I will probably just duplicate the mono audio channel to have a pseudo-stereo. Have you ever done that while enabling expansion audio as well? I don't want to have any extra pots on the back of the toaster. As of now I'm planning to use the 8 pin connector for rgb, 3 gold panel mount RCA jacks for video and audio L+R, small toggle switch for palette selection, and of course a 2.5mm power jack.

Expansion audio for the NES is non-standard. PowerPAK supports it by linking two pins on the expansion port via the appropriate value resistor (47K or 100k ohms I think). The expanded audio will then be heard with the normal audio. So you just need to duplicate the audio output coming out the normal phono jack to have two jacks.

    UPDATE

Im still working on getting the cartridge slot worked out. The game genie connectors are kinda shitty TBH, so I was looking for an alternative. I was thinking to gut one out of a blinking light win, but I don't think I'm going to be receiving one any time soon. So the next best thing: steal a connector from a NES clone console.

Luckily I found a FC TWIN in my garage that I had bought a long time ago. I was talking to Monkeyboyjoey in the chat and he told me to burn the thing with fire or use it for parts because it's a piece of junk. LOL So I immediately thought to steal that 72 pin connector out of it!

So I took it apart and the connector looks to have very sturdy pins.

I will update this post with more pics of the connector once I de-solder them.
I'm probably gonna desolder most if not all of the components from these boards, so let me know if you need any of these parts.

Wow that thing has more parts than I expected it to. If it has a 1uf cap in it, I could really use one for my Famicom stereo mod.

yeah i will get you some.. I might have some fresh uninstalled ones for you, too. I will measure them with my meter and give you some that measure the closest to 1uf. I'm probably only gonna keep the cart connectors, voltage regulators, controller connectors. IC Chips are available to anyone who needs them. That nes one a chip could probably be used for something cool.

The caps should say 1uf on them and they should be quite thin. If you want, you can use those controller ports on another Nintoaster or a dual NES/SNES toaster. SNES controllers work on the NES and the pinout is the same.

Oh can't believe that eBay listing had AVGN in the title... There we go another $20!

Good to see your project getting there.

    OHHHHH, derp...
Well, yes, yes I do love Monster Madness! I really loved the Halloween episode where he shits in the bag and hits Michael Meyers in the face with it. That was amazing.

    Thanks, broseph

This composite mod gives a better image from the av jacks that are already present?

It's still in the works. I had to put it on hold when I left to college. BUT you know, I do have a HiDEF-NES kit coming now.... ;)

No it doesn't. The only reason for doing this was because you need to remove the RF box to make the PCB fit in the toaster.
