What do you think? http://www.eurocom.com/products/future/specselectfuture.cfm?model_id=224 I configured one for the most extreme gaming setup you can get and to purchase would be $12,054 USD (!) That's not all. The fully specked out workstation variant will cost $20,043 USD and a mobile server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 with same hardware specs will be $21,052 USD. :nightmare: Who want's to take a bank loan for Crysis on the go at max FPS and support for 3D games? This thing has an 8 core Intel Xeon CPU running at 3.9GHZ, dual Nvidia GPU, 32 GB of RAM, 4 high speed 480 GB SSD in a dual RAID 0/1 setup, and countless other features. Oh and this monster weighs over 12 lbs. for the lappy itself without the extra cables, drives and other crap. I dare not call it a lappy since holding it there might result in a hernia. It gets released into the wild 10/30/12 You have been warned...
Makes me remember the days when a dual 2.4 GHz Xeon (single core) setup with 4 GB RAM, a 256MB graphics card, and up to 4 136GB 10k SCSI drives fetched a similar price. Mainly so that people could play games like Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and Unreal Tournament 2004 maxed out. Today you can piece together something along those specs with around $250. I guess it depends on how much use someone gets out of the hardware, but I could never fathom buying something because of how quickly it depreciates in price and practicality.
you dont NEED it but its nice to have... my specs. Apparently you don't do 3D modeling for weather, geological, or oil exploration. These type of people need that sort of power and some of them need it on the go. The market is small but there are a few that this type of a beast is absolutely necessary for their job. Then there's the idiot who gets it to basically wave his dick around and shout: "LOOK AT ME!!! I HAS VERY POWERFUL LAPTOP!!! BOW BEFORE ME OR DIE!!!"
Dont see the point in laptops for gaming use, i prefer a big rig for that. if i was lugging it around to lan events maybe but i'd probably piece together a smaller machine for that rather then a laptop, theres not that many lan events locally anymore. my current rig is an AMD Phenom 2 II x6 1090T @3.2ghz, 8GB kingston hyperX, 2 ATI HD5830s in crossfire, 2 dvd writers, 1 TB sata hdd and 1 160gb sata both hitachi deskstars, acer 23inch monitor, this was built a while ago and handles everything fine, i dont know about crysis 3 lol. i dont think laptops are good desktop replacements as far as gaming is concerned. but thats just my opinion and experience. i can see laptops that powerful having heat and battery life issues also screen positions are not really adjustable,
Gaming laptop is nearly an oxymoron. A laptop is meant to be a portable, low-er powered desktop so that you can work on the go. a "gaming laptop" is literally just a portable (hardly) desktop, with the worlds worst battery life. I had an M17x at one point, I sold it a month later- brand new battery lasts 30 minutes (9 cell beast) and it weighed in at well over 10lbs. Yeah, not what I call a laptop. Not to mention the maintenance costs of those things- The warranty of that laptop is 3 years for ALL the parts, while often on a desktop you can grab some lifetime warranties, 5 years, etc. Upgrading, etc. You mentioned 3D modeling for weather, geological, or oil exploration. I honestly don't think that those people need 4 SSDs in raid- Although I did spy the option for quadro cards...
RAID 0 for 3D rendering might be overkill but there might be some who need the speed for large files being encoded and such. As for the Quadro cards, what 3D modelling system uses GTX series aside from poor broke bastards? Quadros seem to have better instruction and software support for the GPU compute 3D modelling uses. In fact, many of the desktop variants will use the Tesla line over GTX and even Quadros. Teslas were built solely for the use with GPU parallel processing. They don't even have video connection ports since they won't render video from videos or games at all. No Crysis 2 on quad SLI Teslas for you peeps. Just particle simulations...
