I never saw any of these in the wild but I remember reading about them in EGM There was also an SNES model. It's like an MVS...for 16 bit hardware
Only $50 too. . that would have been a fantastic bit of kit if it was reared. There was another that plugged into the cartridge port nd sat on top of the Mega Drive. That also was unreleased.
I think you mean...a radical bit of kit. Yeah, this would've been cool since the only way to do this now is to either build your own or get an expensive old demo unit (did ones like this ever exist for Mega Drive?)
I'd love to build my own but I doubt I have the skill to do so. I'd certainly pay someone 50 dollars to make me one though.
Or all together. I wanted something like this for a Genesis project that is now on hold. My plan was to use a Mega Everdrive, a real RAM cart for CD system, Powerbase Converter, 32X and 2 blank slots for extra stuff. Maybe have a 2 way switching model for a second Mega ED on 32X or even two 32X for real game carts and Mega ED stuff. That'd still leave 1 blank Genesis slot, 1 blank 32X slot, and a Master System slot. As well as all the Master System, Game Gear, Genesis, and 32X games on hand too. I know, I know... $$$ That's not really a big issue here with me unless it costs over $500 to do. If it does, just stretch it out over time. But there's still the issue of the CD based games. Someone needs to make a HDD adapter or something like that for the model2 systems. Then it would all fit in the casing I had picked out to make this "Ultimate Super Awesome Mega Extreme Complete All-in-One Bloated uhhhh... SEGA GENESIS!! YEAH!!!" system. EDIT: Before some one suggests a DS16 I know of these and I am hunting for one ATM. I just hope it can be modded to remove the reset and timer function as well as running it without needing the CD expansion slot connected. Maybe I should edit my sig like KRIKzz did...
That's the one I remember seeing the adverts for in EGM or something. There was also going to be a NES version, according to said advert, and that's the one I always wanted. I remember the picture quite vividly. It too took eight games that loaded vertically, and there was a red button under each game to select it. It sat on top of the NES and had a 'master cart' attached via a ribbon type cable.
Is money ever an issue with people here? I kind of want to make my own clone NES/SNES/Gen hybrid Not sure how I'd go about getting them all under a single PSU and I'm also not sure how to get them in a small enough case.
there was a micromachines cart and if i remember correctly a tennis of football(soccer) game or prehaps both with the extra ports, would heat be an option squeezing it all into a megadrive / genesis cart doesnt leave a whole lotta room
I've seen the YouTube video of that thing running. IIRC, it is a Famiclone with the NES adapter or another one of those NOAC thingies. These carts do have 2 extra ports in the tops of them. They were known as J-carts. Here's the read out on them directly from Wikepedia: The J-Cart was a special cartridge developed by Codemasters for the Sega Mega Drive console. It held not only the game data but also came with two additional gamepad ports. This effectively allowed four players to play simultaneously without any adapters or workarounds. Its initial release was set in early 1994. The J-Cart came relatively late in the life cycle of the console. Thus the number of games released as J-Carts was limited, and all of them came from Codemasters. GAMES: Pete Sampras Tennis Pete Sampras Tennis '96 Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament Micro Machines 96 Micro Machines Military Super Skidmark Picture of said cart:
i think they look pretty cool too although if your car slot is a bit tempramental / loose any tug on the controller cable would cause annoyance but could work well for a cartsole mod or a concart or maybe not lol
I had this idea about 3 years ago when I got my Radica Sega and learned that it can play most game carts with a slot connector soldered in place of the game ROM chip. I never heard of a J-cart at that time or else I would have most likely built it. Then my Radica got thrown out by an asshole friend. Think he broke it and tried to hide it from me...
You got it. I wanted to have it battery powered but there's not much room plus I may have to hardwired a control pad to save space.
Get a J-cart to allow for the controller to be plugged in. There are many more recent controllers that have the plug only half to a third the size of the original controller plug. The Retrobit 6 button replicas to be exact. These should help save space and still allow for the controller to be unplugged. If you were to get the SSF2 Radica Genesis they have 2 of the 6 button controllers. I have 2 that got the traces for the ROM pads ripped off despite how careful I was at removing the ROM chips. Cheap PCB...
J-carts aren't that easy to find in Japan Plus I'd really like to use an original Japanese Mega Drive cart or a Sunsoft one. The EA carts are bigger but look pretty turd.
