You know for some reason this series never gets any love I've been playing World Heroes Perfect on my Saturn every night this week (when not for seeing Death!) There's something to be said about a game where a Savage uses sprits to fight Captain kid who throws pirate ships at you. Where Joan of Arc can fall in love with Gengis Khan (See endings I think in 2) where Jack the Ripper is a punk rocker and there's a Nazi Robot hybrid of M.Bison, Dhalsim and Inspector Gadget. Not to mention Dio and Zeus being anime references (and Gee Gus and Dio also being used inthe future by Capcom as boss templates I'm looking at you Gill and Seth) I don't know why World Heroes gets no love but I love this freakin series even if playing through WHP becomes an endurance test.
The later installments are ok, but I was turned off by the early genesis port and never really gave the series a serious second chance.
The SFC port of World Heroes by Sunsoft was pretty good from what I remember. Far better than the crap Takara would normally port. Saying that, Takaras port of Fatal Fury Special to the SFC was excelent. Yakumo
Happens to be my favourite fighting game series with Fighter's History! I carry a WHP phonecard in my wallet, hahaha... Oh, and Saurus ported 2 to the Super Famicom, which was also much better than Takara's bullshit.
I don't think World Heroes 2 Jet got a Proper home port until it came to the PS2 a few years back. I have the World Heroes PS2 collection but the Saturn World Heroes Perfect actually has Extras the PS2 port doesn't Like Zeus being playable and the Character bios. Breaking down the series I'd explain it like this- WH- SLOW the first game was SLOW WH2- Huge improvement and like everyone said the SFC and SNES version was better than what Takara was doing at the time but the home port lacked the bonus rounds and the Ref during death match mode. WH2 Jet- Why this wasn't 3 I don't know it changed enough from WH 2 to make it WH3. I didn't like the removal of death match mode instead we got what Forging of the Warrior mode and the actual "Tournament" where you fought 1 on 3 matches. Still, Jack and Ryofu were good additions to the roster. World Heroes Perfect- World Heroes 3 but not called that. The Home ports actually have a 6 button set up if you set it up in the options. the lone new character is hidden unless you have one of the home ports or a Saturn. The only real thing I can complain about is how single player is an endurance test it just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on. But right now it's my favorite saturn game. The sound in the SFC/SNES Fatal Fury Special was messed up. I'll call it the St Anger effect (After the Metallica Album) since the sound seems like it's coming from a trash can.
I've never liked the MVS games, but World Heroes Pocket would have been awesome had it seen the light of day.
I started a convo with a friend of mine last night about possible characters for a World Heroes Revival game that will probably never happen. Chracters we thought up were A rabbi with a huge scapel. A Cave man (his idea), Andrew from Samurai Shodown Tenka, A black dude with a huge fro, and a Rahjaput warrior from India. There were Eras too that Perfect skipped over I'd like to see, Noah's Flood, The Middle ages, Colonial India and others I can't think of right now. There's alot creatively one could do with a Revival of World Heroes Sadly I don't think SNK nor the world has any interest in a World Heroes Revival I guess we just have to settle for Nio Dio, Mud Man, Hanzo and Fuuma in NGBC for now.
I never really played the World Heroes games, but seeing the attract mode for...I think World Heroes 2 (and Karnov's Revenge too) on a Neo Geo cabinet was mindblowing for me as a kid. For some reason I never cared enough to even play them on MAME or something. Oh well.
Karnov's Revenge couldn't be more of a SF rip off if they called it The Streets are Fightings. World Heroes 2 I have so many memories of playing though it's insane. In the unlikely event a 4th sequel is made I hope they bring deathmatch back.
Well, doesn't that sum up the whole Fighter's History series in general? :wink-new: I mean, they were actually sued by Capcom for it...
Watch Yakumo's video for Dynamite. The Muisc even speeds up near death like it does in SF and Yeah Fighter's History was quite a bit of a SF Rip off. It's just that Dynamite is more so. Legend has it Dynamite is on the Neo Geo as a big F YOU to Capcom from Data East. I always found the series hard to get into none of the characters really jump out to me as anyone I want to play as.
I remember the World Heros and Samurai Showdown games being just as busy as the Street Fighter, Mortal Combat and King of Fighters cabinets back in the days when arcades still existed. In fact I remember World Heroes having a much bigger draw at arcades and Tournaments than Mortal Combat ever did in the Los Angeles area. I prefered it over King of Fighters, but overall logged way more hours into Street Fighter over my lifetime. I think World Heroes was basically popular with people who are now in their mid 30's and up. Essentially its too late to revive something that the under 30 crowd never knew exisited, let alone having had an actual "hay-day" when those folks were not even in middle school yet.
KOMBAT not Combat Well the Neo Geo has somewhat of a hipster following in emulation communities so never say never plus there was the PS2 reissue so who knows I doubt it though. SNK needs to take a break from KOF, and Samurai Shodown for awhile so why not bring back an Old IP if they aren't going to invest in new ones.
